I like to think I'm making progress in the world of cigars, but I still stumble upon things that peek my curiosity and I'd like to learn the answers to. If this question seems a bit.. noobish, well it is.
I've been buying a lot of sampler packs to establish my likes/dislikes in a cigar. I've noticed that on majority of the sticks towards the last quarter burn of the stick my lips will start to burn. No, not because of heat, it's almost a numbing feeling that intensifies when my lips are exposed to air. In smokes that I've liked, the feeling is not as intense and usually only pops up when I've almost finished the smoke. In cigars I've deemed to be not to my liking and consequentially also seem to have construction/burn issues the burning seems to set in a LOT earlier in the stick.
Is what I'm referencing per chance the "pepper" flavor that many people refer to in their reviews? I think not considering I believe I've tasted pepper in cigars minus the burn. Is there a higher concentration of nicotine towards the end of a cigar that results in a burning sensation? Maybe ammonia is left over causing this? I dunno.
Also, is this something people like in a cigar that my tastes may eventually evolve and enjoy? Is there a correlation between a full bodied cigar and a stronger burning feeling? If so, I may be leaning towards the medium side of the spectrum.
Any light you guys can shed on this is much appreciated.
Thanks!
