Medical Residency

So a lot of you guys know that Im in my fourth year of med school here in San Antonio, and I found out yesterday that I am going to be moving to Chicago in June to begin my internship at Rush. Ill be doing a surgery internship there and Im pretty excited. Ill be applying for an anesthesia position next year, as I made up my mind realy late this year and didnt have a chance to apply for them. Its great news for me, as I am now employed , and at the same time Im a little nervous as Ive never spent any time in chicago, so if you got any tips lmk. I know my family is excited and sad at the same time because Ill be so far away, but I could use the change of scenery for a year. Off to Vegas on friday to celebrate with some of my friends! Cheers!

Congratulations! My wife is a Chief Resident this year (OB/GYN), so I know how great it is to get a good match! Starting with a year of general surgery is a great way to go, and it will pay off in spades when you get into the Anesthesiology program.

Although Chicago has it's downsides, it will certainly be a great experience. You'll get a lot of cases there that you might never see again, depending on where you practice.
