Fellow BOTLers!
Jose here, 31 year-old Cuban American from Miami, FL.
Actually fell into cigars while on a cruise and trying out Montes and Cohibas we bought in Nassau as a gift for my future brother-in-law. Never smoked a cigar in my life and knew squat about cigars at the time but I do know I liked what I smoked. I hopped online to research fake cigars and fell upon BOTL. Sure, the cigars we bought turned out to be fakes but we paid so little and it was worth the introduction into this very dangerous hobby with nothing but slippery slopes around ever corner. :halfgrinw
My future BIL is into cigars and is a nice mentor to have on hand. His FIL is into them as well so we have a nice support group going.
As a smoker, I only have a few Olivas under my belt from the BIL recommendation, working my way thru the line to Serie V and soon will crack into a few Nubs to see how they are. He also has me in line to try some RP '99 Connies, and some others. The B&M's have suggested things like Perdomo Champagne's and the like. So many to try, so little time!
I'm open to any suggestions from the Brothers on things I could try as a new smoker. I currently buy singles in the B&M's because in Miami's heat, indoor temps in my house get up to 80 when no one is home. So I'm not even bothering with a desktop humi or tupperdor and figure I'll have to jump head first into a wineador. I troll CL and such for leads.
I do however use a Cigar Caddy-type traveldor, which I use because I don't smoke at home so I need a small "kit" to tote my sticks and accessories to and from my smoking venues.
I've spent the last 2 weeks reading on BOTL thru all the forums just absorbing knowledge. Funny to think I knew absolutely nothing about cigars 3 weeks ago and now look at me, chucking around cigar acronyms and terms with the best of them. :headroll: You guys suck.
I've also been to many a B&M in Miami these few weeks, boy do we have a lot here! Haven't even scratched the surface and worse yet, haven't even been in the old 'hood down 8th street where the old school B&M's are.
Amazing how this hobby is, cigar smoking. Of all the time I have spent on it, less than 1% of the time is actually spent smoking! Haha I hope to change that real soon and tip the ratio into a much more favorable direction.
This is a very dangerous place. Still trying to figure out if this is a forum or a support group. :grinFU:
PS, what's the verdict on Cuban Crafters? I recently attended a wedding where they had a guy sitting at a station rolling fresh cigars at the reception. He had a couple of sizes, and their plastic cutters on display. All was free, you just walk up and take what you wanted. I thought that was a nice touch and a really cool thing to see.
Thanks for reading! I will surely enjoy my stay here.
