Well...I guess I knew this was coming. I thought I was fortunate for the fact that a comprehensive smoking ban hadn't been passed in Michigan yet. I hope there will be an exemption for tobacconists and Cigar bars. I really only frequent one cigar bar, my favorite cigar lounge, The Atrium, In Grand Rapids.

I guess It wont affect me too much. I really only smoke cigars at that one bar. Any other bar I go to Is usually because they make or sell great Beer. Most aren't cigar friendly anyway.

Im not really sure how much It will affect me, but...Ahh....well...What can I say. Im disappointed.

It's not all that bad for cigar smokers. The bill makes exceptions for the three Detroit casinos (floor only, not the bars or restaurants), cigar bars, specialty tobacco shops, home offices and motor vehicles, including commercial trucks. So this doesn't really affect cigar smokers all that much. We are still able to smoke in all of the places that we used to be able to smoke.

This just released from CRA:

"While Cigar Rights of America stood with the opposition to a statewide smoking ban in Michigan, in a coalition that included the Michigan Restaurants Association and the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, we are pleased that Michigan didn't go the way of total prohibition.

Cigar shops, cigar bars, and casinos garnered the desired exemptions.
While compromise in politics is a solid approach to governing, CRA believed that the sage words of Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop sum it up best: "This is a blatant overreach of government."
Once such statutes are on the books, they are always open to amendment and change. Such sentiments are brewing in Ohio, where they realize that they can not enforce their prohibition style policy.

There are opportunities for additional smoking ban change in other states, as well. CRA will keep you posted on these developments, and how you can assist."

I still think this sucks for all the smokers. Yeah we get to smoke in our spots...but no bar smoking...that blows! don't get me wrong...I am happy we are not affected much...but I am just worried about the step in this direction. Just wish it would have never come to this. I think we probably should have focused on un-employment or education much more than this. Our state is in trouble and this seems like nothing but another shinny object to look at while we ignore the pain of a dying state...just my .02 though...and I hope I did not agitate anyone with my statements!

Nothing like letting individual business owners make the decision on wether they would like to be smoke free or not. WTG big government! Keep lookin out for us!

Well seeing how I don't smoke anything other than cigars, I found this two be funny as a law in any form...as a cigar smoker!
I live in Kalamazoo county and 99% of the bar's or restruants for that matter allow cigerette smoke but not cigar. I always found this hypocritical. So the fact that they caved in for cigar bars, Caseno's and other smoking emporium's still give's us a place to enjoy our favorite cigar. Beside's there is no way you can compare a cigar to a cigerette IMHO!!
