I do enjoy wine, but not enough to learn a lot about it or to spend a huge amount of money on a bottle. After having the Offley Port last night that was sent to me by my SS I think I might need to change that. It was one of the best tasting wines I've ever had and combined with the cheese that was also sent made for a very nice evenings appetizer. It would be a awesome with a good cigar but I wasn't able to have that as it had gotten cold outside.

My wife is the wine drinker in the house and she's still talking about how good it was this morning!

Welcome to the club! I love beer, but in the winter I tend to drink more Scotch and Red wine. Last night, New Years Eve, I opened a bottle of 2005 Bordeaux to share with the GF and ring in the new year.

Cigar smoking got me into Port wine, there are some great in-expensive ones out there too. Fonseca Bin No.27, Whiskers Black Tawny Port and Dow's Fine Ruby Porto just to name a few. I had Offley Port for the first time last Thursday evening and really enjoyed it.

~~~Welcome to the Grape! Wine is my passion, just as cigars are (over pipes) and I've got quite a lot of knowledge and am always willing to share as are many wine enthusiasts out there!
And a great port and a cigar go well.
My wife and I love wine but so far we only like Moscato. We have tried Riesling and a few others but do not like them. Anyone have any other sweet wines they want to recommend? We just can't stand the dry wines or anything that is like drinking vinegar. So far Moscato is it but I would like to find more we enjoy.
Port, which has already been mentioned, and anything that falls into the category of Dessert and Ice Wines.
Sonoma Valley Portworks Deco Port With Dark Chocolate Essences NV goes wonderfully with cigars!
Here's another good link....Dessert, Fortified & Fruit Wines
I'm partial to Sandeman's and Penfolds ports. Love the Grandfather and Great Grandfather from Penfolds.
If you like Moscato try Perseco or Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante.
I go with Sauternes or Banyuls for dessert wines. They go really well with cigars. The best combo is an Illusione Epernay and Sauternes.
Incredibly high in sugar content, but oh so tasty. If you don't have the coin for vintage port, try the Grahams 10 year old tawny. Yummy.
Having my first Grahams 10 today paired with an 04 Monte #1, now a Partagas Presidente. I'm normally not a sweet drink kind of guy, but this port is pretty damn good!
Ooo... Wine and cigar pairing can be a TON of fun. I do it on almost a daily business as I work in a restaurant that specializes in making their own wine. I'm constantly recommending bottles for guests to pair with cigars when they go home.
I have all sorts of great wines I could suggest for you, but I will say port is a FANTASTIC pairing. I'm particular to 20yr Tawnys personally, but Special Reserve ports, which are commonly a blend of ruby port vintages of several years from that producer, are deep, sweet, rich and usually pretty cheap. ~>$20 a bottle, and you're not going to drink a bottle of port in a sitting with it being well north of 20% ALC.
If you have any questions, want any help, please feel free to PM, post here, ask away, I love turning curious minds onto great wine, and especially through cigars pairing too.
I find the port to be a "sipping" wine. A glass could last a long while so to me it's not a big issue. It is high in sugar but it's not as bad as some of the foods I was eating new years eve.
Gotcha.
I have a few nice bottles of port given to me a by a friend who had a 1,000 sqft wine cellar drafted into the plans of his new house. He knows his stuff, so I'm certain that these are good bottles!
