image.jpeg image.jpeg Today I was digging into the deep corners of my wineador and found something a little alarming. This Camacho that has been in my humi for a few years developed some mold on the foot. I removed it from the others but am curious if I need to be worried about the spores spreading. Or if it's an isolated problem. All other cigars looked free and clear of any white devil. What says the brothers? Anything. I can do to remedy this from happening in the future? My wineador is sitting at 65d 66 humidity and is calibrated correctly via electronic hygrometers calaibrated last month thru boveda calibration packs. What says the brothers and thanks in advance.

You calibrated with Boveda, but talk more about your hydro. You're using distilled water pucks, or beads / silicate litter ?

All cigars have mold spores on them. It's just wether or not they will colonize. Some have mold wiped off before you buy them. (B&m spots a streak, wipes it clean) And they reappear after purchasing. Also with all the bombs and trading that goes on here. We essentially infect each other's storage unknowingly. Just wipe off the white mold and smoke them. Also separating the infected cigars from general population can help. If it's in the foot cut a 1/4" off and smoke it. Nothing more nothing less.
Try to keep your humi at 65-67. I haven't had a sign of mold in 5 years since I moved to that RH.
Cheers
Oh and the bovedas are causing some very small pockets of extra RH IMO. Grab some silica kitty litter to help balance things out.

Some times it just happens. I keep all my boxes in the low to mid 60 range, and haven't had any for years, until recently. Had an unwrapped LFD Limitado V sitting under a bunch of unwrapped assorted DE Ligas in my premium box. I went digging through that box one day, and the LFD had so much mold in the foot that it looked like it was wearing a powdered wig. It was so much that I wasn't willing to take a chance, and had to toss it. The unwrapped Ligas sitting right on top and along side of it, never picked up any mold whatsoever. Sometimes it happens from over humidification, and sometimes it just happens, even at lower humidity levels.

Hey, like Argus says, could just be a rouge stick. But hey, if you like 64-67RH, adding a small pillow packed with some silica Kitty Litter wouldn't hurt anything.
I have a wineador using two HCM bead packs, but I still use a couple small silica K/L bags over here.
Good Luck !
