This place IS my vacation
Well, woke up at 4 am to head into Mayo which is right across the street from our hotel. Mom was in a lot of pain this morning. (we are taking this as a positive sign from god that she is supposed to have this done.) We got there, they took us and mom to her pre-op room and got her all settled. Soon after that, the assistant to the main surgeon came in (there are three surgeons total: a lung specialist, back specialist, and neurosurgeon). He talked to us, told us that he will be coming out to talk to us every now and then, giving us updates on how its going. Dr. Krauss is the main surgeon.
After that, the anesthesiologist came in and looked at her veins...She has very faint veins to begin with and because of her breast cancer mastectomy, no needles or IV's in her right arm. So he found one and sent in the nurse to place the IV for the liquid meds that will put her to sleep. Gasses will keep her asleep. After him, came an assisting surgeon's resident that marked the spot of the incision. Then two more nurses came in and entered all the info, and got her all set to go.
All in all, we feel nervous, but confident...if that makes sense. We told her goodbye and they took her to the OR about an hour ago. It was sad and hard to see her go, she had tears in her eyes...so did we. Thanks to all you guys for your continued support and i will keep updating this as we get updates throughout the OP.
I thank all of you for the support...you guys rock.
