I hardly use cash nowadays but this is bullshit

You need a banker & paper cash!

http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/24/monopoly-ditches-cash-goes-plastic/

While Monopoly is the paragon of good 'ole fashioned board game fun, the "old fashioned" part had to go. Parker Brothers is phasing out the cash-based version's funmoney and replacing it with an "Electronic Banking" flavor that could leave Mr. Moneybags turning his pockets inside out as his stash is replaced by a magnetic strip. New kits are completely devoid of the famous multi-colored bills; instead, you'll find phoney Visa debit cards and a calculator / reader which keeps a running tabulation of your riches -- or lack thereof. A deal was struck with Visa to design the mock cards and readers, presumably after surveys showed that 70% of adults used cash less often now than they did a decade ago (no surprise there). When asked about the dramatic change, Parker said replacing cash with plastic "showed the game was moving with the times." For those anxious to get their swipe on, or if you've simply forgotten how to use bills, the new version will set you back £24.99, while the now "antiquated" cash version can be had for £12.99, but only while supplies last.

Interesting but somehow I think it will take alot of the fun away for kids... who doesnt like handling the funny money? Plus, now ya gotta keep an eye on the person that has the card swipe so they don't sneak extra cash on there

Wow, that is strange.

I was talking with the wife about how when the kids grow up and watch a movie where someone is taking a picture with a 35mm camera or using an early 90s cell phone they probably won't have a clue what those things are.

Now they might not know what cash is? Weird.

Well cash will never go away. But there are certainly plenty of things your kids will have no clue about.

Remember this quote kids. Add it with,
"Those automobiles will never replace the horse.",
"If man were meant to fly, he would have wings.",
"This dry arid land on the west coast will never amount to anything".
"Man will never set foot on the moon."
"The payphone is a necessity and a sure bet investment"
"Why would anyone need more than three TV stations?"

I thought Monopoly was sort of an educational game that used math skills, but I guess that's another segment of our life that is getting dumbed down.

You know, about a year ago, I had to go to the EZ Pass (tag for your car for toll roads around here if you don't know what that is) office to return an old tag and I wanted to pay a bill. Do you know they told me they don't accept cash!!!! I was incredulous! I didn't have a credit card or check, so I couldn't pay my bill, even though I had the cash to pay it. :argh: :argh: :argh:

Flip side:
More than a couple of little bistros downtown don't take plastic.

Was out with my sales rep once and after she tossed down her card I can still see the dumbfounded look on her face when they said cash only.

Teaching new consumers the value of plastic. While cash will never completely go away, I can see a reversal with a premium for those who use cash rather than plastic. The funds are immediately deposited, no employee theft, easy bookeeping etc. The next step in the continum is to ease the use of credy cards and debitcards and to control fraud.
