Montecristo Robusto EL 2001
Montecristo (Cuba)
Year: 2001
Size: Robusto 50 x 5
Strength: Med
Wrapper/Construction: Wrapper was a very dark maduro, typical of the EL wrapper. This wrapper did seem a little thick. I have some Monte DC El's that are a little lighter and seem thin.
Scent: Didn't give much away, just rich tobacco taste
Pre-light draw: Again, nice rich tobacco taste
Burn: Burn was very good. One or two touch-ups, no problems.
Draw: Draw was good. Good amount of smoke with just the right amount of effort.
Taste: This EL was deep and rich with the taste of chocolate, wood and tobacco. I have found with the EL wrappers the taste is deep and rich while regular production smokes have a burst of flavor that just jump out. To make a comparison with beer, this EL would be more like a stout. It was good, but it just didn't grab my attention. There are good robustos and hermosos #4 out there for a lot less $$$
I like Montecristo and I like robustos so I had to try these. For the money I would probably not get a box, but I'm glad I tired them and glad I have a 5-er to age and 3 other singles to smoke when I'm in the mood.
