What I am testing calls to see if there is infinite resistance and the second test is looking for continuity but should not be zero ohms.

Have you checked the meter by crossing the leads? If so, do you get a zero reading. The reason I ask is that some digital meters are very sensative and will not zero out when crossing the leads.
Also have you checked the battery lately and are you sure the leads are in the proper jacks?
I'm not trying to insult your inteligence but as a journeyman lineman, I have made and seen other jouneyman make simple mistakes.
When you are not getting the reading you expect always go back to the basics and double check to make sure the meter is set up right and has a fresh battery. If all is good then maybe what you are testing is bad.:dunno:

Yes to both.

I guess really my question is what reading is infinite resistance and what reading is continuity.

Continuity is when you have a connection from point a to point b such as a light switch in the on position.
In the off position there is no connection, you have an open cicuit ( infinite resistance ).
What is it that you are testing?
