I smoked a Juan Lopez Petite Corona today and it was musty tasting. I've smoked several others from the same box and hadn't experienced it before with them. I noticed a Montecristo No.2 and a Partagas Series D No.4 had the same mustiness a while back but others from the same box that didn't. What's this from? I keep everything just below 65% and about 68° so I think the conditions are correct.

Also, the MC are 3 years old, the Partagas 2 years old and the JL are about 2 years old as well.

I would guess high humidification before you purchased. I had a box of punch punch that smoked just like this due to improper humidity before my acquisition.

I use 62% Boveda in my Coolidor and fan unit set at 65% in my humidor. All hygrometer readings confirm that I'm within the 64% average rh in both. Plus my stored cigars are all in a very stable environment inside a basement room with no fluctuations in temperature or humidity. The temperature is a steady 68 degrees.

Maybe it is as you said a bad leaf or bad QC in Cuba. I was especially upset because the first few from the box were amazing! I've had three now that had a little of the mustiness, and one was really unpleasant.

I'm suggesting you purchased from a vendor like P... That has in the past had high RH storage and mold problems in their warehouse. It causes a musty taste in a habano. And doesn't matter if you have a "perfect" RH storage setup. Just my opinion.

No, I used a very nice gentleman that has an excellent reputation.

I don't think it was his storage issue or mine but maybe funky leaves. I'm smoking another tomorrow so I'll let you all know.

I believe whichever cigar was the culprit has affected others... several of my favorites all have a musty taste from this humidor now. The ones that stayed in the boxes are good while the ones that were placed in this humidor are musty. I know the rh was good but I wonder if it could have permeated the wood?

Can they be saved or cleared up?
