Hello I am new to this forum. I have been smoking cigars for three years and really enjoy a good smoke. My typical smoke these past few months has been the Rocky Patel Edge Maduro. It has a great taste and is a good smoke for the money!

I have heard some good things and bad about the JR Alternatives and decided to buy some for myself. I bought a bundle of the JR Alternative to the Rocky Patel Edge Torpedo Maduro. While it didn't taste exactly like the real Edge it wasn't bad. It lit well and had a good draw. It was really smooth and had a great flavor with no harsh after taste. I really enjoyed the smoke during a round of golf. For a $1.75 a smoke it wasn't bad - I would buy another bundle.

Has anybody else tried the alternives? If so which ones and what were your thoughts?

Welcome! I have had several. Some good, some bad. The problem is, I don't know which they were. They aren't really marked well. I've had one JR Ultimate that was really good. I believe it was an oscuro wrapper.

Welcome to BOTL.

Early on when I first took a liking to cigars I picked up a bundle of JR Alternatives to Macanudo.

Many of them were plugged solid. So my overall experience was awful. I had seen JR's writeup explaining that they use so many different manufacturers for the Alternatives that some problems were encountered, and they no longer use the manufacturers that produced poor quality. Ok, fine, but I still felt like I got ripped.

Through the guidance of the members of this board, I've been intruduced to many cigars that I enjoy far far more than anything offered at JR.

Good Luck and enjoy.
