I put one of these in my garage this weekend. Had a cabinet installed that the fan I wanted would fit right in. I thought I'd create a thread because good ventilation is a topic that can make or break a good smoking experience. I just wish I'd done this sooner.

Cut an 8" hole through the wall that lined up directly with the fan exhaust and ultimately, the vent piping that I pushed through from the outside.

Installed a vent in the door of the cabinet so all the smoke goes in the cabinet and is then exhausted directly outside.

Rated at 720 cfm on high, but with a variable speed controller, I can adjust it to a lower speed and install temporary 4" dryer hose coupled to a roof vent that I can direct the smoke at lower speed which makes it a bit quieter.

The variable speed controller is made by the same manufacturer and plugs directly into a 110V receptacle.

Here are the Amazin links to the fan and speed controller.

Easy peezy lemon squeezy!

Post any questions you have here, and I'll be happy to answer if you are looking for a similar solution.

Not sure, but all of the air in the cabinet is being sucked out Joel. If it does start to smell, I'll maybe seal it because it's just particle board as you probably noticed.

I have a 10"x10"x10" square to round hvac transition that I installed too, that I may be able to join up from the intake vent to the fan too. But thought if it worked without, I wouldn't go through the hassle. That would ensure no smoke is getting into the cabinet.

About to move into a house with a garage stall that's gonna be dedicated to my cold and rainy smoking area. So thanks for the links and photos.

I was thinking of doing an overhead system in my garage. Pretty much the same thing you did, except with a duct that comes straight out of the wall over the area I will be most often smoking in.

Kind of like a over oven hood, but obviously not an over oven hood. But a similar to that smoke intake.

@King Kill 33 - do you lose a lot of heat through that setup? I used to party in a garage with an overhead exhaust, seems it sucked out more heat than smoke...

I will have to wait and see when the temp drops as its been nice here this weekend. I knew when I looked into this that I'd lose some heat, but I really wanted to expel smoke, so the heat loss will need to be tolerated. I'll post when it gets cold again and update everyone.

I use something like that in my garage as well, also use it to expel steam from brewing. Works pretty durn well. Can't speak to the effect on heat since my garage isnt heated though.

If I could comment on the heat loss..... I pay about 30-50 dollars a month in the middle of winter in extra electric for my rooms 5kw coil heater. (In line unit in a fresh air intake)
The systems that Doug and I are using, with one person smoking. Can easily capture and exhaust 95% of the cigar smoke in the room.
When I have BOTL over. I remove the snorkel hose from the ceiling and the other end away from the ashtray. And just turn up my blower speed.

How's the noise level? I've been looking at a 340cfm Panasonic Whispersync, for my 10x10x12 room, but no variable speed option.

@Jfire, can you give me more info on the inline heater you use?

I was just going to say maybe position a cheap paper and wire furnace filter in the cabinet in front of the blower. Just throwing that out there.

After exhausting a shit ton of smoke through this cabinet since March, I have zero issues or concerns with smell or buildup. I think though the velocity is strong enough to carry it straight through the center without giving it a chance to collect.
