So as the saga unfolds, I have been blessed with a daughter. They induced my wife early to get her back on chemo for her breast cancer (as some of you already know), and we were overjoyed when our daughter arrived healthy and happy... and also two weeks further along in her gestation than we thought. This was surely a luck break, as we were told that she was going to have to spend some days or even weeks in the NICU since my wife was thought to be 35 weeks. Low and behold, after spending 12 hours in the NICU, the pediatrician deemed her to be a 37 week delivery and capable of being in the postpartum room with my wife and I. Thank you brothers for all of your well-wishes, support, and prayers, as they have been heard. Not knowing what the gender of the child was going to be, it took us 48 hours of deliberation to give this little lady a handle but we finally did: Valentina Reiko Itzel. Valentina, because it means "Strong and Healthy," but also because it was the name of the first woman in space. Reiko was a Japanese name we had picked out in for our first pregnancy, but we ended up with a boy. We have no idea what it means, but it was suggested by the Japanese Great Grandma. Itzel is a Mayan/Aztec name meaning "unique," and we figured her story was definitely that. Here are some photos:
