I'm not sure if you can still get these tumblers from starbucks but that's where it was originally purchased. I'm sure there are other retailers that sell similar things. This took me a whole 15 minutes to make and I think it looks pretty cool. The mugs come with a insert template and all I did was trace it on a stiff piece of paper then glued the bands down. Trimmed the bands off at the edges and threw it up inside the cup. I kept the original template behind the one I made so I can make other inserts in the future.

I did find a computerized template once but I believe you need to have full Adobe Photoshop in order to open and use it. If you are lucky enough to have the program I think I found the template using "starbucks create your own tumbler template". That way you can do whatever you want via the computer and just print it out on a ready to cut shape.

The only thing that sucks is there's a visible seam/edge where the wrap ends. If I were so inclined I could make a full cone and glue them on while it's in a cylinder shape. That way there's not an edge which you can't see in the pic but it's on the back side. Maybe when I have 30-40 more bands I'll try a different one not that I don't already have enough for 2-3 more mugs easily.

I read your post before going to Wal-Mart and just happened to see almost the same mug. Picked one up for $4.99 and tried it myself. Not too shabby, but I think I like yours better. I used about 30 bands, glued them to piece of paper (the back cover of Cigar Aficionado) and that was it. It took about 30 minutes and it kept me busy while I smoked a Padron and watched the snow fall (from my covered proch). A very pleasant evening and now I have a cool mug. Thanks for the idea.
