C'mon,,,everybody knows that the Mayan Calendar ends at Dec. 21, 2012...these crazy bastids knew a 1,000 years ago we're on borrowed time. I have 3 cigars and a bottle of Drambuie waiting for me on Dec. 20 ....I wish I had a nickel for every end of the world scenario there's ever been. Maybe I need to buy just one more bottle just in case Dec. 22 follows?

Okay, so it may have affected my cell phone reception last year... Scary.
This was an article from 5 years ago stating these sunspots could rival the one from 1958. Now, I'm no scientist, but if the only example they gave of how bad it was in '58 was people in Mexico seeing Northern Lights; I'm not too worried.

I remember the solar storm of 1958 (which the article on one of those links refer to). Basically it meant that for a few years, TV reception on channel 2 was lousy.

Not the end of the world.

(but cigars and Drambuie on the 20th can't hurt!)

The solar flare was so strong that it fried telegraph wires.
