This post is kind of about two different things, but you'll see the connection...

So this is going to be a kind of weird story, mainly because I have a shit memory. Many years ago -- I'll say 12-15 years but I could be wrong (shit memory example #1) -- I was at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, NY. At the time, there was a cigar shop there, although for the life of me I cannot remember the name (Shit memory example #2). While pursuing their shop, I came across a pallet loaded with boxes of Nat Sherman cigars and the price was so ridiculously low that I had to inquire. The story I was told was that these cigars had been rolled like 25 years prior and had been "lost" in a Nat Sherman warehouse in the Dominican Republic (I think it was the DR - sme#3). For whatever reason, they couldn't sell these at regular price, so they were sent to this store and were being sold for pennies on the dollar. Several of the employees at the store who had sampled them said they were a fantastic smoke -- after all, we're talking about Nat Shermans that had been aging for 2 decades in the ideal environment. Of course, I bought one and smoked it right there in the store. They were, in fact, spectacular and I ended up buying two boxes (it was all I could afford at the time). One box of sun-grown and one box not. Both Lanceros. I think I probably paid like $20 or $25 per box, although I can't be sure (sme#4). I've slowly worked my way through both boxes; I probably only have a half dozen left. If I've had them for about 15 years, and what they told me at this shop is true and they were already like 25 years old when I bought them, then that would mean they're like 40 years old. I'm not sure where I am going with this, other than I'm hoping there is someone else out there that might be able to shine a light and refresh my memory. I know that's a super long-shot, but I thought it's worth a shot.

Which brings me to the second point of this post -- lanceros. These are the only lanceros I've ever smoked. I don't know why that is. I mean, these Nat Sherman's are amazing. And I'm not one of those guys that normally smokes huge, fat cigars; I tend to favor Churchills and Coronas. So, I've decided I want to give lanceros an honest try. I just ordered a five pack of Crowned Heads Headley Grange Drumsticks which I am very excited to try. But I'm hoping that any of you Brothers who favor Laceros would give me suggestions of some must try (but readily available) lanceros. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Yeah watch holtz. Gotten boxes a couple times for like 40 bucks (sme1) might have been more. If you want to try a few decent lanceros, grab one of the tatuaje lancero samplers. All of them are pretty damn good. The my father and don pepin blue lanceros are great.

On a side note if you haven't smoked many, which it sounds like you have just not a variety, let them dry box before smoking and smoke them slow. The first few lances I had I was turned off big time. But I just wasnt treating them properly which a kind brother pointed out.

Nat Shermans are one of the cigars that I have very fond memories of. My cousin would always pick up a couple cigars every time I would visit and she would always hand me a Nat Sherman while I was lighting a fire out back. We would sit around for hours and smoke and catch up.

Some of the lanceros that I love and never seem to disappoint...Crowned Head 12 Honest men, Oliva V, My Father #4, La Palina Classic. The one 1502 I had was really good as well. Holts has a great deal on the 12 HM every couple months that is a no brainer...

Edit: Good reason to start stocking up for February!

Cain f lancero tubos were my jam back in the day. don't think they make them in tubes anymore but probably still same blend? DPG blue lance. My father's lance which is the #4 if i'm not mistaken. L-40s are a bit pricey but they are more available now then they used to be. Love those.

Some of my favorite lances are the Oliva V (burning one right now (y)), anything Tatuaje, and now the Headley Grange Drumstick. @redneck_toy and me burned our first ones the other day -- fantastic!
Agree 100% anyone with interest in lanceros should grab a box of these while they're available. Best lance I've ever smoked.

That's a great memory. I have a few fond memories smoking these Nat Shermans with some good people, too. Thanks for sharing!

So I was doing some cleaning this weekend, and I found one of the original boxes these Nat Shermans came in.

Nat Sherman Canary Island. Does anyone know anything about these cigars? I can't find anything on the google-machine.

And apparently the size of these cigars is "elegante" and not lancero. Can someone explain to me the difference between these two sizes?

Laneros are great. Illusione HL, DPG blue, tat brown labels, original and new el triundadors, El Titan de Bronze Redemption lanceros... the list could go for days.
