My good friend and fraternity brother just deployed to Iraq about 3 weeks ago. Before he left, I told him to send me his address when he got there and I'd put together a cigar package to send him. We've only smoked cigars together a couple times because I only really started getting into cigars a few months ago. I was thinking the best deal would be to get him one of the 15 count cigar caddy's that I can pick up for around $25 shipped, fill it up, and send it to him. Then he would have someplace to keep them safe and I could just send cigars in zip locks in future care packages to refill the cigar caddy.

Here is what I was thinking about sending thus far in the 15 count cigar caddy:
1- Monte Classic*
2- Monte Classic*
3- RyJ Habana Reserve*
4- RyJ Habana Reserve*
5- Padron 3000 Maduro*
6- Oliva G*
7- Oliva G
8- Oliva V
9- Punch Rare Corojo
10- Punch Rare Corojo
11- RP Connecticut *
12- RP Vintage 1992*
13- Gurkha Park Ave*
14- 5 Vegas Gold
15- Padron 1964

What I want to do is to put together a nice variety for him because I'm not really sure what he likes. The only cigars we have smoked together were some monte whites I bought before I knew anything about cigars. The ones with stars are ones I already have in my humidor, which is part of the reason why I chose them. The monte's and the RyJ HR's came from that altadis promotion. I like the monte's and RyJ's but I have many more cigars I'd like to try in the near future from the bombs I recently received so I think he would appreciate them more than me for the time being. The others on the list are cigars I have tried that I liked.

Any advice or recommendations? I'm a newbie here and to cigars so my experience is pretty limited. Also, would the built in humidifier be enough for iraq? I think thinking about throwing in a humicare bag instead and sending a small bottle of distilled water for it. Thanks in advance for all the help!

This is incredibly respectable. I really think he'll enjoy the Oliva V...not many people have a bad experience with them. I hope this all works out and he enjoys the sticks!

That's cool of you to do that...

N.Olson can chime in here based on experience, but what type of living conditions does he have? Will he be somewhere hot without access for a/c storing? If it stays hot in his room or where he will store the caddy, it might not be the best thing for storing cigars. Anything over 75 degrees you begin to worry about those dreaded beetles!?!

i personally was pretty fortunate, being a medic, we kind of require at least decent A/C units for dehydration and overheating soldiers, but it is possible for those guys to keep them in a controlled climate. sometimes it just takes some interesting thinking to find out how!

i knew of a first sergeant that converted a full sized fridge as a humidor over there!

Wow, thanks for the offer n. olson! Check your mailbox for my pm with my address.

I asked him if he would have a/c in his living area in my last communication with him but his reply to my email didn't respond to that question so I am not sure. I forget what group he is with but it is a Marine Corps Reserve Unit from here in OK. He's a LCpl and mans the TOW/M2 on Humvee so I don't know if that gives any clues as to living conditions or A/c. I think he might be at Al-Asad but I don't know. The address he sent me doesn't give a base name, just lots of numbers and abbreviations.
