Hello all!
So, as you may or may not know, the contest on my blog is coming to an end, and I excited to see who wins
However, as I keep putting up reviews, I have noticed that I gravitate towards reviewing fairly rare and HTF sticks, as alot of the ones I smoke are that way...also, I have gotten quite a few emails and comments along the line of "Sounds like a great stick, but not one that I will ever see or find" or the like...
Now, I started the blog for a couple of reasons:
1. I saw that there were very few good photos of the cigars we all like to smoke, and I knew I could rectify that.
2. I enjoy smoking cigars, and have for years, and have been taking notes on cigars as I smoke them for years, but this keeps all of my thoughts in one place.
3. I enjoy camaraderie among cigars smokers...believe me when I say it is NOT the same in my other job, and it is great to get away to totally different group of people and interests.
So, where is all this going?
When I search for, buy and smoke cigars, I am always looking for something that I have not smoked, something different, always trying new things...so when I do find most sticks I have been looking for, I usually buy as many as I can find/afford, knowing that even if I hate them, i can bomb them out or sell them at a later date...
This practice is good sometimes (when I bomb people
and bad sometimes (when I have to pay!), but it is what it is...
So, here is my question. I have MANY other reviews coming up of htf sticks, and the last thing I want the blog to be is a place for people to go to to read about a stick they will never see...
I also LOVE the idea of giving people something that they cannot find/get for themselves, sharing the love, so to speak...Honestly, that is one of the best things about the cigar community for me, and I want to keep it up....
I am thinking about starting a standard "contest" (although I honestly hate that term) that will be based on what I did for the first one...So, for every review I do, I am thinking about sending one of the same cigar to one person who comments under each post... i.e. if I do a review on, say, a Por Larrañaga Magnifico (which is upcoming), and 18 people comment on the post, then one of them will get sent a Por Larrañaga Magnifico, drawn out of a hat or something...(Obviously, I could not do this with every cigar, since I only get one of a few of them, like the HMR and the like, but the vast majority of them I would be able to)...
What do you think? It will give people a chance to get some cigars they would not ordinarily get, and I get the satisfaction of helping out a BTOL with every post
Now, obviously, another factor is to drive people to the site, but since I don't have any advertisers (and refuse to take them on) then it is just for my enjoyment
Any thoughts would be appreciated, I truly respect what yall think...
Thanks in advance!
