I have a friend that usually gives me a fist full if Cubans now and then because I help him out with his company. He was using a for sure know site. Now he found a cheaper site and I wanted to see what you guys thought.
For some reason my camera was not cooperating with me but let me know if you need more.

These are supposed to be Bolivar Coronas Gigantes.

I think to give an appearance overview, we'll need better photos. Closeups of band, cap, length, ring guage, etc. It should be noted though that even a bad fake can construct a good cigar. Only true test is smoking. (how many times you heard that!)

You really can't go by appearances, you need to smoke one to see if it's any good or not. Kurt nailed it on the head when he said the only true test is to smoke it.

The real pleasure is in smoking a cigar...not looking at it.

Well I did smoke one of them while I was doing sporting clay last weekend and it was a pretty good smoke.
Just because its good doesn't mean its a Cuban though right?

Just because it's Cuban doesn't ensure that it's good. Ever heard of Guantanamera cigars?:rolling::rolling::rolling:

A gifted cigar is cool because if you haven't had it before it might make you search out a box. Provenance for a gifted cigar shouldn't be that important unless you were looking for a particular cigar to try before buying.

I agree, but lets say it is a non C it would be cheaper getting it from a place that I know sells non C cigars. I do indeed like this cigar and want to get a box, but want to make sure a spade is a spade before I pay spade prices.

I wish my camera would take better pictures then we would have some clearer pictures.

It's either a Habanos Bolivar or not. If it's not, you'll never taste the same cigar again. Search out some other Bolivars. They have a very distnict taste profile and if you like the profile in general, you'll most likley like the CG.

Absolutely!

We can't give you any quality advice on this thread from those pictures. They just aren't good enough to tell you if the cap is right or if there is something wrong with the bands. But as others have said before, the only TRUE way to determine authenticity, and even then it can still be open for debate as many we respected people have been fooled before, is by how it tastes. Bolivar is one of those brands that just scream out at you it's so distinctively different from all others. Sorry we can't give any more help.

I understand the whole " smoking is the only way you'll know" but I still consider myself a noob and thats why I come to the pros.
So your saying if I were to get better pictures of the band and cap that will help?

i got my hands on a box of Cohiba explendidos...The box and everything looked the shit, Then when I looked at some of the bands the embossing seemed a little off. I proceeded to smoke one and it burned terrible, not a horrible smoke, but definatly not a true, Castro selct CC Cohiba from Havana!!!

Read my Post...Maybe it help!

It's really hard to say unless it's a bad fake...from just cigar pics. I would like to see the box. I would also like to know the vendor. I have seen MANY terrific fakes...triple cap...proper bands...proper size etc. Even smoking them can leave question marks. I have had many Bolivar that don't taste like a Bolivar to me...sick...blend...year, youth all can play with the taste. While most will taste Bolivar...some won't.

I recently smoked a Party Churchill Deluxe that not only didn't taste Party it didn't taste like a CC. But, the vendor is solid...the box and cigars checked out.

The better the pics and the more information you can give us will help.
