So I used a nety pot for the first time this afternoon.
Tonight, my cigar tastes phenomenal.

Is there a correlation?
Has anyone else had this happen?

I would not make it a part of my smoking ritual but I could see where it could help if you have some sinus issues.

I don't doubt it could help. You actually experience a cigar's aroma through the olfactory senses, so if they're blocked it could hamper your ability to detect notes and nuances.

I'm intrigued with this because the sinus cavity tends to block that part of being able to enjoy the sense of smell...we all know that when we have a cold or sinus issues our food doesn't taste like it usually does or we're not able to pick up those aromas we tend to take for granted. I've seen a new product that you put over your mouth and nose and it steams and is supposed to clear your sinuses that way...( the name escapes me but we've all seen those infomercials ) so this leaves me with some curiosity about doing some research and possibly buying one to see if it actually would make the smoking experience a bit better. It's not going to make the cigar taste better but it does seem to give some credibility to cleaning out an area that we all know has a lot to do with taste.

You can also achieve this with another technique I learned 20 years ago. It's a little trickier, but it goes like this:

Grab a very large bowl and fill it half way or more with lukewarm water. Literally put you face in the bowl and very, very slowly draw a tiny bit of water up your nose and expel it into another container or outside, bathtub, etc.

Repeat this process 5-10 times to clear your sinus. I use this technique when I have sinus issues due to colds, etc and it works well for me.

The key is to do this VERY slow, to start.

I tend to have issues after retro haling a lot during a smoke. This may be the answer to my problems. Although I have never been able to make myself use one in the past.

I love these things..... Or just some saline nasal spray

Symptomatically they do more fore people with uri's and allergys than a lot of prescription medicines

A note, you should always.....always use sterile water, never anything straight from the tap, distilled water is also acceptable

Using tap water has a rare incidence of introducing pathogens into spaces they shouldn't be, however swallowing the water is not an issue hence you can drink it because anything living such as protozoa/amoebas, and bacteria are killed in the gut

Think amoeba on the brain, there were several cases where people died a few years ago fyi

Interesting. I'm now a fan of these. Just used one for the first time last fall. I was fighting a sinus infection and knocked it out in a few days using the neti pot.

They're not as bad as you think they'd be.
And saving a trip to the doc and a course of antibiotics is a winner.

Isn't this what they call Waterboarding....lol

There are systems out on the market...one is the My Pur Mist which goes for $150 and another one called Mabis for around $35 and Vicks for around $33. Reviews are pretty good on these but I'd get one with the best warranty and buy it with your Visa or MC and get a double warranty with it.

Totally true.

Distilled water, all the way.
