I'm smoking an Illusione MJ12 maddy at the moment. First one. Great so far.

Something that kept me from pulling it out of the box here at my B&M is that they are individually foil wrapped. If I'm trying a new stick, I like to feel it, see it, smell it. I trust my senses. In the wrapper -- even if I know I like Illusione, and particularly their maduros, I am essentially buying blind.

Tonight I took the plunge on a strong recommendation.

Upon tearing the foil open... such a strong and delicious spice filled my nose. The stick was the second to last one in the box, but it smelled like it was just unsealed, first one gone from the box.

I LOVE getting a cigar from a fresh box in the walk-in! After they've been sitting open for weeks or months (or YEARS) they may have some good age but that sweet sharp stank is gone gone gone!

I haven't kept boxes for long enough to have them affected, and besides, I don't leave them open.

How do you feel? I know I appreciate even more a Tatuaje foil wrapped bunch (if you have the chance to smell a Tat Black Corona Gorda jar as it's opened, TAKE IT). I've never yet experienced the "wet pack" but I bet I'd like it.

Anyway, this MJ12 is developing great. Gotta get them to open another box ;)

I gotta agree. ..I prefer just about any maduro fresh.... It just has more of the earth and funk I look for in a maduro...

People always make fun of overly-specific flavor descriptions in reviews, but that smell of dark, rich soil is maybe the most heavenly thing ever found in a cigar. I like my CC's more overall, but nothing I've ever smelled beats that earthy, rich dark soil aroma from a nicaraguan maduro.
