I refuse to buy anything from the NC brands that are blatantly stealing CC branding, so won't be trying the RyJ.

Will probably try the JdN at some point though.

I am not sure why you think NC brands are stealing label names from CC, and why that would change your interest in a cigar.
I don't THINK it. I KNOW it. It is a fact. A very obvious one, at that.

Why would that change my interest in a cigar? It becomes about morals, and not the tobacco.

As far as Romeo y Julieta using similar labeling I don't see the harm at all? What do morals have to do with the band on a cigar? If someone can read, they can clearly distinguish a CC from a NC.

I actually prefer a lot of NC labels over the CC labels which look very outdated and unoriginal in my opinion. Which is also a major contributor the amount of fakes out there. (The new Cohibas are the exception.)

If I were you I would do a little research, and find out who makes and distrbutes those brands for both CC and NC before claiming theft. Seriously, I don't think you know the facts, no offense.

According to the internets you are flat wrong AR. Cuban Romeos are not owned or produced by altadis. They simply bought 50% of the cuban company, presumably so they could peddle their cheap cigars with a cuban name and trick uninformed cigar smokers into thinking they were buying cubans. I can't tell you how many people come to me with cohiba red dots telling me they found cubans.

I think it would be sweet if some of the high end cigar makers started adding a bit more security measures to there bands. Sort of like a lot of the high end clothing designers and expensive liquors started dong. Would hopefully get rid of a lot of the fakes out there. I personally can not wait to try this one "Limited-Edition Cuatro Cinco From Joya de Nicaragua". Boy does that look tasty. Hopefully the reviews will be out soon!

Hence, why I took it down.

Thank you.

Now, back on topic - does anyone here think that JdN would be tastier in a smaller RG?

I don't necessarily believe that a smaller ring gauge makes a cigar tastier. I believe the bigger ring gauge Padron 1926 series are as good, if not better than the smaller ring gauge. It's been my experience that a smaller ring guage sometimes doesn't give me as good as a draw as a 54 or even sometimes a 60 can, and IMO a bigger draw depending on the cigar gives me better flavors. Personally, I prefer boxed press or favtory press cigars as the smoking experience is better overall, but it's not an absolute. I like the box press My Father 60 RG more than the smaller ring guage ones, but then with Monte by Montecristo I like the corona size the most. However, with the La Flor Dominicana Factory Press IV, I don't believe it would be better with a smaller ring gauge or without the box press.

Not always, but probably 90%+ of the time I will prefer a blend rolled in formats ranging from 42-48.....or smaller sometimes

It's been my experience that a smaller ring guage and figurados are better constructed, as well -- probably because the better torcedors are assigned to the more demanding formats?

Finally, I recognize it as a personal mental condition, but I concentrate more and smoke slower when smoking the skinnies.

honestly, i would take a newer altadis release over a newer general release. i will probably try the new "RyJ'. mind you, a lot of stuff i will want to try first, but still...

and, sean, about the ring guages, just look at the goldies! i would never have believed the petit lancero could translate to the 54 (?) RG, but it did. hell, tat DD, the face, FFP's; sometimes it really is supposed to be that big. my preference would be corona or CG, but i wanna see what they do with it.

Last years (or the year before) when they introduced the ROMEO, I thought that thing was excellent. My father and I split a box. Only RyJ I liked. May try the new one. But just like JJ said, there is way more stuff out there on my list first.

I'm intrigued by the idea that NC marks are "stolen" from the CC marks. It seems funny to make this distinction when Cuba nationalized its industries and "stole" these brands from their original owners in the first place.

I've always thought that NC versions of these brands share a more legitimate chain of custody to their rightful owners, but I admit I haven't done enough research. That being said, there aren't many of these brands that I prefer the NC version over CC.

I have liked the recent string of Altadis releases especially Epic and Legacy.

No, I hear you there. I can't speak for the DD or the Face, but in all other instances you are spot on. Even our new brother, ar####, has a point. Some things are better in a larger size. I am basing my opinion not on the general "smaller is better," but as a lover of all things JdN, I ALWAYS find a smaller rg better matches my tastes. Antano lance over all other antanos, the Celebracion corona over the others, the Cabinetta lance over the others, the "peligroso" over the other Dark Corojos, the Cyb lance over the rest. That's my take anyway.
