BoM January 2010
I always put cigars into categories in my mind, genres if you will. I have a current favorite right now, and that's the "Creamy but full-flavored morning cigar." In the past, I've stuck with Conn Shades for a milder morning cigar, but lately these just aren't doing much for me (with one exception, below). I'm just looking for something a bit fuller now, even in the morning. Here's the list:
Tat Black blends -- This is the first cigar I had in this genre, and is still a favorite. The Mummy is my current go-to when I have time, though the Tramp Stamp and Black PL are frequented as well. For me, this is the original cigar in this genre.
El Centurion (OR) -- Though very strong when first released, these have mellowed out a lot now and fit well into this category. Complex and delicious!
CyB -- These are still pretty new to me, but I've really been loving them. Sweet and full of flavor, but easy on the palate. Awesome! The lonsdale is my favorite so far, the the Toro is solid too, just milder. I just bought a box of coronas for cheap, can't wait to try those
Herrera Esteli -- I had my first and only last week (corona), but I already know these will be a new favorite. Fantastic cigar.
My Father -- These are more peppery and the strongest in the genre for me, but they fit the bill nicely. With 2 years of age, these are so creamy and delicious. The lancero is my favorite (surprise, surprise!).
Viaje Late Harvest -- Another stronger one, but these things are just so unique and excellent. The profile is hard for me to describe for some reason, but they are very different than the typical Viaje--sweet, creamy, with some tart woody flavors. I've had some burn issues with some, but overall they've been yummy.
El Triunfador Habano -- The #6 (lancero) in this blend is great. Spicy, yet mild, and oh so tasty! The profile is a bit different than the others in the genre for me, so it's an outlier, but still a great stick.
L'Atelier -- These are superb cigars. The 54 is my favorite atm, but I haven't tried the 46ss yet. These are also a bit of an outlier in the genre because the wrapper is so unique, but they have done the trick for me every time I've smoked one. So good!
La Palina Goldie -- These are unique, delicious, and just plain amazing! These sticks demonstrate just how important excellent construction really is. Can't wait to try the new size. The only problem with these is the price tag, and it's a big one!
EPC Short Run 2012 -- The mildest cigar on the list, but despite that this cigar is full-flavored. So much nuance for a Conn Shade. Glad I got 2 boxes.
Cubans -- HdM, Montecristo, Cohiba, Trinidad. It's tough to beat a good Cuban in the morning! Though HdM has been my favorite for a while in this category, lately the Montes have been taking the reigns, especially the Grand Edmundo.
There are some old favorites that I'd like to revisit soon, now that the weather is warming up. These include the EPC New Wave, San Lotano Conn, 601 Black (OR), Perdomo ESV '91, Perdomo ESV '02, JGRE LE 2012, and La Aurora Preferidos Cameroon Lancero.
So how about you guys? Do you find yourselves gravitating to a certain genre of cigars these days?
