I always put cigars into categories in my mind, genres if you will. I have a current favorite right now, and that's the "Creamy but full-flavored morning cigar." In the past, I've stuck with Conn Shades for a milder morning cigar, but lately these just aren't doing much for me (with one exception, below). I'm just looking for something a bit fuller now, even in the morning. Here's the list:

Tat Black blends -- This is the first cigar I had in this genre, and is still a favorite. The Mummy is my current go-to when I have time, though the Tramp Stamp and Black PL are frequented as well. For me, this is the original cigar in this genre.

El Centurion (OR) -- Though very strong when first released, these have mellowed out a lot now and fit well into this category. Complex and delicious!

CyB -- These are still pretty new to me, but I've really been loving them. Sweet and full of flavor, but easy on the palate. Awesome! The lonsdale is my favorite so far, the the Toro is solid too, just milder. I just bought a box of coronas for cheap, can't wait to try those :)

Herrera Esteli -- I had my first and only last week (corona), but I already know these will be a new favorite. Fantastic cigar.

My Father -- These are more peppery and the strongest in the genre for me, but they fit the bill nicely. With 2 years of age, these are so creamy and delicious. The lancero is my favorite (surprise, surprise!).

Viaje Late Harvest -- Another stronger one, but these things are just so unique and excellent. The profile is hard for me to describe for some reason, but they are very different than the typical Viaje--sweet, creamy, with some tart woody flavors. I've had some burn issues with some, but overall they've been yummy.

El Triunfador Habano -- The #6 (lancero) in this blend is great. Spicy, yet mild, and oh so tasty! The profile is a bit different than the others in the genre for me, so it's an outlier, but still a great stick.

L'Atelier -- These are superb cigars. The 54 is my favorite atm, but I haven't tried the 46ss yet. These are also a bit of an outlier in the genre because the wrapper is so unique, but they have done the trick for me every time I've smoked one. So good!

La Palina Goldie -- These are unique, delicious, and just plain amazing! These sticks demonstrate just how important excellent construction really is. Can't wait to try the new size. The only problem with these is the price tag, and it's a big one!

EPC Short Run 2012 -- The mildest cigar on the list, but despite that this cigar is full-flavored. So much nuance for a Conn Shade. Glad I got 2 boxes.

Cubans -- HdM, Montecristo, Cohiba, Trinidad. It's tough to beat a good Cuban in the morning! Though HdM has been my favorite for a while in this category, lately the Montes have been taking the reigns, especially the Grand Edmundo.

There are some old favorites that I'd like to revisit soon, now that the weather is warming up. These include the EPC New Wave, San Lotano Conn, 601 Black (OR), Perdomo ESV '91, Perdomo ESV '02, JGRE LE 2012, and La Aurora Preferidos Cameroon Lancero.

So how about you guys? Do you find yourselves gravitating to a certain genre of cigars these days?

Awesome write up bro! Not a bad stick in your bunch.

I find myself lately to be gravitating toward Connecticut wrappers. Which is funny because I'm not usually a fan of the milder sticks but lately I've really been enjoying them. Funny how your taste buds can change even when it comes to cigars.

Some of the Connecticut wrapped sticks I've been enjoying lately have been Ashton classics, Oliva Connecticut, EPC New Wave (Soooooo good), Torano Casa Torano, and the Man O War Virtue (this one really surprised me)

Cant wait to see what others post!

I've moved away from connies almost altogether lately... But still really enjoy the MoW Virtue with morning coffee... It's probably my favorite mid morning smoke right now...

You've got 5 of my favorite morning cigars on your list. CyB, Herrera Esteli, El Triunfidor, EPC Short Run and MOW Virtue, they all go so well with coffee and just seem to hit the spot in the morning. I find it hard not to immediately grab a MOW Virtue when I want a rich, creamy smoke in the morning. I'll have to give the others a shot. Nice write up and thanks for some new ideas.

The one and only La Aurora Preferidos Cameroon Lancero that I had was super strong. Good smoke but not quite as good as the '06 Robustos.

If you want a truly surprising connie, check out the Room 101 connie. It was really surprising, and quite good. Almost had a dark english pipe tobacco essense about it, while maintaining the smooth connie -ness.

I'm not 100% sure that it fits into this category but I think the Illusione Rothchildes is another good example. As a side note, the smell of a full wheel of these ROTT is incredible.

Nate, when you revisit the EPCNW, try to do it within a couple days of the 2012 SR. I like the SR, but honestly, I think I like the NWC even better - especially at a couple bucks less per stick. I'm interested to hear how you think they compare.

Before I read your list, I thought the first paragraph was describing the Crystal Baller. A lot going on in that stick, but it is all mellow and subtle.

I rarely smoke Perdomos anymore, but someone handed me a small RG Champagne Noir recently - pretty dang smooth and creamy. Blind, I'd have never guessed it was a Perdomo.

I love the similar taste profiles that I get from the HG and the Foundry. I wish I was more experienced to fill out my genre more completely but alas, I cannot.

Hey Dave! I haven't yet tried the Crystal Baller, but I have one and plan to do it soon now! Thanks for the head's up!

As for the HG and Four Kicks, I do love those cigars actually, but they are primarily woody to me as opposed to creamy, so not quite in this category for me. But that's just me!

^ good call! I love the Goldies, should have put them on the list for sure (updated!).

The Quesada Jalapa is one that might make the list soon as well, need to smoke a few more first. I was only ever able to track down a few Espanas, so I would need some more to make a call on those.

I've made the same transition. I second the Jalapa and the Espana. Also may want to try the 601 Black, Intemperance BX and EC, and La Palina Classic.
