Not totally new to cigars, as I smoked a bit when I was in the Navy years ago. But back then 1) I smoked crapola cigars and 2) didn't know any better and wondered why I was smoking such awful stuff. So, not knowing any better, I figured I didn't like cigars. Probably a fairly common event.
A few years ago I got involved in Cowboy Action Shooting. What has that got to do with cigars? Well, in this part shooting, part social sport, folks dress up as cowboys or town folk from the Old West era. We shoot old guns and then party after. During the social events most of the gents light up stogies as was I understand common in days gone past. Well, at one party recently a guy offered me a fine cigar and damn if I didn't enjoy the heck out of it!! Finally I smoked something that wasn't a POS!
Soon thereafter I saw an ad (by guess who??) Thompson Cigar which was offering 20 cigars and a humidor. The humidor was pretty lame as were most of the cigars but a couple were so-so. Intrigued, I ordered a few samplers and lo and behold I found a couple that were really quite good (a Macanudo Especiale and a Perdumo Artesanal) out of perhaps 30 that were OK to sucks big time. In the meantime, I bought a couple of nice 100 count humidors and have them stabilized at around 72 to 75% humidity. I have perhaps 60 to 70 cigars of which most will probably be given to the moochers who have already found me LOL!
Anyway, I got an email from Thompson's about some Gurka's that they were letting go at $29.99 for 10. Fortunately I googled them and ended up at this site. Eureka!!! What a find! Maybe I can save some bucks (already saved the $30 by not buying the Gurka's) by getting some decent opinions on what to buy or NOT buy.
I'm working my way through the site recommendations and will try to learn from you guys, rather than pissing money away on so-so smokes from the likes of Thompson.
