Hi all, I'm happy to be a part of this forum. I'm fairly new to this hobby but I'm learning quickly.

I've had cigars in the past, but what really started me into this was during my wedding in May when I was finally able to relax with my groomsmen with a couple cigars in the evening. After the hectic (but awesome) day, it was great to be able to sit down away from all the guests and just relax.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to participating in the forum and getting to know everyone. If anyone has any hints for buying cigars in Canada either online or from B&Ms around Montreal, I'd love the help.

Welcome from southwestern ontario :)

As for tips from buying in shops - don't if you can avoid it...lol

Check the botl sponsors for ordering online. Emerson's and Federal have been especially helpful, as I'm sure Podman cigars would be as well.
Cheers

Welcome to the forum from Manitoba :). I'm relatively new to cigars as well and so far its been a great experience. I completely agree with bdc30 about avoiding shops in Canada. I'm not sure what taxes on cigars are like in Quebec but keep in mind you are also dealing with retail markup at your local B&M and those two things drive up prices. I myself am better off buying online in the US, having customs charge me the rediculous taxes when my order passes through the hands of a CBSA officer, then receiving them in Winnipeg. You'll find BOTL sponsors have a great selection and very reasonable prices. I would also strongly recommend that you NOT use a courier service like FedEx or UPS for the shipping method -- make sure you use USPS instead when you order from the US because couriers will kill you on brokerage fees which are separate from taxes. USPS/Canada Post only charges an $8 fee -- couriers charge by the amount your items are valued at. Feel free to pm me if you need any other advice, I'm more than happy to help.

Gday mate, and welcome from down-under! your story sounds very similar to mine, my first cigar experience was the night before my wedding, sitting around with my groomsmen, sipping on scotch and stogies, knowing that within 24hrs i was going to be tying the knot with my best girl, not much better hey?
