Friday was my last day with Aida America. Can't say that I am sad to go. Monday I start my new job with AK Steel. I am hoping it is a little better fit.

Anybody else out there change jobs recently? Was it for the better :stretchgr or worse :cryloud: ?

A few moths back I got my Class D security license for Florida and started working nights guarding one of Aldtadis' shipping yards. Definitely a change for the better. It's not the most money I've ever made (in fact the pay is rather pitiful) but it's definitely the easiest money I've ever made. Every hour I go for a leisurely stroll by a nice duck pond (they call those rounds)... I light up a decent cigar or my pipe now and then... for a few hours of the morning on weekdays I make sure people have their parking passes in order.

All told, not a bad gig. The worst part is the smell. The local Altadis production plant is responsible for Phillies Blunts :barf: and the smell of the flavoring chemicals oozes out of the trucks sometimes.

Recently got a job at the campus dining hall. Previous jobs (in chronological order) were Sandia National Labs (high-security shit, like touching nukes, pretty cool stuff), Kmart garden shop (not really that bad), Circuit City, and now dining hall. It's minimum wage, but I get to pick my hours. And it's close (on campus). Definitely not as cool as Sandia, but at least if I fuck up here it's just mashed potatoes and not a national security issue. Definitely gonna get a new job for the summer, prolly another garden shop job (like being outdoors) or maybe kiss some major ass at a B&M and get a job scrubbing toilets or something.

I was with a Sales Support person for a Medical Device company for almost 2 years and I was part of a 10% cut back at the end of the calander year back in September. I am now back at my old job hospital job back in Boston for now.

Last time I changed (Jun 1998) it was for the better. My current employer has been the only one in my carreer with a profit sharing plan.

I've been pretty lucky too - have only been laid off once and out of work for a total of 4 months in 30 years. My wife however has been laid off twice in the last year and has also been on unemployment since mid-January.

I've accepted an offer teaching elementary school down south (Mississippi Delta region) with Teach For America, which is an Americorps program. But until that starts up, I'll be hanging out on campus with a Resident Assistant job. Not a bad gig.

The change to being an RA was a good one though. My old job was as a desk jockey for a few hours a week, and that's not fun. Now I get to deal with excitement -- alcohol poisonings, roommate disagreements, depressed students...all the stuff that makes college what it is. heh.

I changed jobs a little over 6 months ago--been at the previous one for 5 years.

My change was for the better in just about every way imaginable. It's not like my old job SUCKED...I just was never exactly happy because I constantly had to deal with other people's incompetence, inconsistency, and lack of caring.

My new job makes me happy nearly every day--bet I have 9 great days out of every 10. The people here really care about their work and try to do a good job (or at very least, more so than my last job). Plus the pay and benefits are much better.

Change was very good for me.
