I spent the last 1.5-2 weeks partitioning off a piece of my porch for a small smoke room. It came out great but my wife is finding it hard to be in the room. I'm pretty sure she'll do fine with just me smoking but she's been in it twice with me and a buddy smoking and it was too much for her. And me the last time... the smoke got to my eyes.

I've been reading up on a couple pricey options out there. The Rabbit Air and the Purifan filters. Not overly confident in reading the reviews that they'll do the job. I fear they will just help make the room smell better after the fact but not help much in the way of removing the smoke as it's being generated. Does anyone have any real experience with these or other filters? I imagine I will need to do some sort of exhaust fan + filter combination, but then I will just be dumping out the AC'd air.

I have a Coway air filter , it's the company that makes rabbit air. I would say it will not scrub the air the way you really want it to and that's with just one person smoking. The best thing I know to do would be to put a fan in a window or a quiet bathroom fan in the ceiling. Venting is the best way without going to a commercial level air scrubber.

My guess would be some sort of bathroom ventilation fans in the wall or ceiling. There's a few threads posted about something like this and DIY vent system. I don't remember who it was though that shared the project with us here. That looks awesome though. I'm jealous since I can only smoke outside, in my truck or the local B&M.

Is there any way to pipe in AC'd air from the house? Then the exhaust fan can pull the smokey air out.

The rabbit works well after the fact and I'm sure helps some while smoking, but fans and a high output exhaust fan are really what you need, although without a heat exchanger you'll be wasting your cold air.

In the end, I think the exhaust is still worth it though - ideally in my opinion you want to cycle the air in the room every 5 min or less

A couple of large bathroom exhaust fans would do it . Is there any windows in the room ? Just a normal fan pushing it out the window as well maybe ? Smell wise you could put a timer on one of those scented sensor mist spray things wouldn't get rid of it but would mask a little of the smoke smell mate of mines done it seems to do the job

It's all about air turnover, fresh air supply and exhausted air, you can seal the room and or put dampers in vents to keep it from pulling ac, the small bathroom vents don't pull much cfm, the most efficient is having the exhaust right at the source

I built a smoke room when we did our house and even with a 1200 cfm fan running, putting a little piece of duct down where I was smoking did a better job, wife could sit on the other side of the room and not tell

I only use mine in inclement weather, and more so with my pipes, cigar smoke smell is hard to remove if there is a lot of smokers imho

Also choose non absorb any materials in the room i.e. No rugs leather furniture wood or tile flooring will all make it less likely to notice

Best of luck

That's what I noticed in mine My room is a little larger 3 season room than yours with a tray ceiling about 10-12 feet high and even with fans going and windows open the smoke still heads for the top. So if I planted a bathroom exhaust fan at the highest point it should have direct access to a large amount of the smoke that is created.
I have smoked right next to a box fan in a window pulling air out and it only grabbed a small portion of the smoke. Look where the smoke is going and place an exhaust there if possible.

I have this air purifier Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier with True HEPA and Eco Mode https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BTKAPUU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_J7PuxbT7WEFEQ
But even with all the great reviews in a smokey room it's just not gonna do enough. Now over night it'll have the room nice And since it didn't really work the best in my room it does work great for dog odors and pollen if someone has allergies or if you want something that will continually work at the air in the room. But as another poster said , nothing will replace cycling the air .

Thanks all for the input. From what I gather you guys just confirmed my fear of needing an exhaust system, perhaps paired with a filter. I don't care too much about the smell so I'll focus on the exhaust. I'm just not the biggest fan of that as I'm sure it's going to dump a lot of my cooled air outside. Hopefully the AC will be able to keep up... it is designed for a room about five times as large as this.

I'm going to experiment tonight when a buddy comes over for Game of Thrones. I'll just have the room cooling for 30 min or so beforehand and open all the windows (two walls worth) when we start smoking. See if that alone will help with the smoke... if not, I'll look into one or two exhaust fans to place near the ceiling. If they're light enough I can just mount them into the plexiglass.

Cheep way to fix to get you by... Box fan ! Then close the window down on top of it. If you have two windows you can do one blowing in and one out. 30$ fix
