I was wanting a Bushmaster AR-15 m4 a while back. Times got tough, money got tight and ditched the thought. Then my Dad said he could loan me the money to get one. I told him I didn't want another bill or to owe anybody any money for a while.
The next day, he calls me to the house, says he wants to talk to me. I get over there, he says "here" (that was the only talk he wanted to talk about) and hands me this:

A Rock River Arms AR-15 A2 Millitary/Police issue (it has the bayonet attachement). I told him I couldn't afford it. He said "your momma has been aggrevating me to get rid of a few guns, so I traded two to get this for you, enjoy!" WOW, I was awestruck and overly appreciative!!
Now to see about getting a few custom parts here and there.

Excellent! I personally prefer the flat top for options with sights, but that's a nice, old-school M-4gery! Be careful about getting into the "custom components" shopping, that can be as dangerous as buying a gun! First things first, pick up as many 30 round mags and as much ammo as you can afford (at least 500 rounds). AR15.com is your friend (er, enemy). Enjoy!

Yeh, I was wanting a flat top; but it was a gift and not going to complain about that. I'm going to put a scope, light and maybe a sling in the future (hopefully). I got enough amo to supply my neighbor hood. My Dad and I reload.

The awesome thing about the AR system is that you could easily switch out the upper receiver to a flat top. It's mind boggling how versatile this weapon is.

If you are just looking for any ol' scope, drop me a line. I've got a Tasco that came on the AR I traded for the flat top one I have now still lying around somewhere. Might have the carry handle mount too...

Oh, and reloading is probably not economical for the .223.

Reloading is very economical for .223, around here at least.

Sounds like your father is a first class man, you're very lucky! Now go pump some rounds down range!

I got a 30 and a 20 round mag. We have about 3000 rounds of .223 loaded up in various heads, velocities etc.. (no-joke we got ALOT of ammo). There is a Gun Show this Sunday. We are going to see what we can find for the handle scope mount. Dad has about a dozen scopes not on anything ready to go. Im going to take it slow, with a baby on the way I can't get crazy with it.
Maybe go take it out after the show to see what I can do with it.

Don't scope it Shawn...get proficient with the iron sights. You'll get a flat top in due time. A simple A2 is something you rarely see these days.

Enjoy it! RRA is a great company. I built my first AR using RRA components.

Agreed with ckay. Becoming proficient with irons is not only a good idea, but it gives a sense of pride/accomplishment... for me anyways.

O yeh, I will use the old irons first. Still debating on a scope or not....
I have shot my Dad's numerous times and am pretty good at it.
I don't plan on going all out with it. Just make it functional...
