Hello, brothers of the leaf! My name is Tom; I'm a complete and total neophyte, just testing the waters. A cigar-smoking friend gave me five or six mild cigars to start with, and I've smoked two (2) so far--an Ashton (not sure what the size was) and an Avo Domaine robusto.

I doubt I'll become a daily cigar smoker, for reasons of domestic harmony and a paucity of outdoor options. I live in an apartment in Paris, so when the weather is nice I can go for a stroll to a park, and apparently there are a couple of establishments where one can go for a smoke, but in general I'm thinking one or two cigars on the weekend sounds like the maximum future scenario.

Right now I'm doing some web research and checking out the different sites and forums from which to glean information on this enjoyable pastime. This one is certainly different! The amount of bewildering jargon is remarkable. For example, what is a pass? What is a bomb? What are the secret coded numbers? Any clues will be welcome.

Hi. Ashtons are a good mild cigar to start out on. That's what I recommend to any of my friends who want to "test the waters."

Welcome to BOTL. My suggestion to you is to do as I did when I first joined, check out as many of the older posts as you can. There is an extraordinary amount of great information here gathered from years of cigar smoking experience.

Welcome to the Brotherhood, mate! A pass is when one box with cigars goes to a recipent who empties it (fully or partly), adds more cigars and sends the box to the next in line. A bomb is basically sharing the share. Coded numbers, in the meantime, are the delivery confirmation numbers for any box flying.
