Hello all. just started my collection last december. The girlfriend picked me up a decent little 300ct cherrywood lined with spanish cedar. Im hard to buy gifts for so this was a weird gift but all in all i appreciate it more than any other gifts i have gotten in a long time. First things first, i went out and bought a little havana hygro meter which seems to be doing pretty well. trying to keep it around 70% which is hard at the moment due to small quantity of stogies.

Little did i know the real reason she got the humidor for me was because her dad is a huge collector and she wanted us to bond over a nice burn. so far so good. he showed me his collection and his make shift humidor which is quite impressive to say the least. I do have to share how he made his. An old friend of his worked for qualcomm at the time. He asked him if he wanted a Sealed dry storage container. they use these for over night holding in out door enviroment to keep the electronics dry (huge box, about 5 feet tall, 4 feet deep and 4 feet wide. He lined it in about 600 dollars of half inch spanish ceader.

Needless to say, after my first "bonding moment" with him and a nice aged AF shortstory cigar from his collection, i was hooked.

My question to you gentlemen is, what should i start off my collection with? ive picked up some small ones here and there to see what i personally like. so far im a fan of the gurkhas, the AF muduros and some hand made ones that her uncle made dubed "The Angel". Any suggestions?

I'd suggest you first find out if you like mild or full-body cigars. Also, we have a great CC's reviews and DC's reviews. Take a look around here, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

These sticks are definitely a good starting point, you might also want to give LFD, Tatuaje a try (the latter would technically fall under Pepin as well). Welcome to the board!

Thanks all for the warm welcomes! ill try to snap a shot next time he rotates the collection around. hes planning on pulling his collection out and sanding the cedar down a little. apparently the top layer gets weathered and becomes harder and less absorbent (thats just what he tells me) hes had his collection for 22 years now and has collected lots of rare smokes icluding the Untold story for AF and some world war two era's. Funny story he told me, One box he has, it says something along the lines of " The tips are not currently in production to save resources for the war"

I will also try all the ones you guys suggested, Ive got plenny of time on my hands ;)
