Relaxing on the back deck with nary a person around. Many have taken off for the shore leaving the surrounds just as I like it.....peaceful and quiet. The sun is beginning to set and the birds are frolicking around, chirping away. Gorged myself 30mins ago on a T-bone accompanied by and artichokes and a salad. I'm ready for what smoking adventure lies ahead.....
Tonight I've selected an H.Upmann Taco to sacrifice to the fire gods. A quick background on the stick from CA "Like most cigars that come in limited-edition humidors, the Taco Imperialés is a special size not found in the normal factory portfolio. It measures 6 1/2 inches by 49 ring. Each humidor holds 50 cigars. Only 200 humidors were produced. According to Habanos, all the tobacco used to make this cigar come from the Vuelto Abajo growing region." Construction and appearance on this stick is flawless. Perfect heft in the hand and the aroma is that of loam, perfume and pepper. Clipped the head and the draw exhibited just the right amount of resistance.....perfect! Off to the cellar and out comes what I think would pair nicely with this vitola. A bottle of 2006 Mollydooker's The Boxer Shiraz.
After the initial light, an onslaught of first class toasted tobacco assaults the tastebuds. Earth and vanilla join the fracass....then comes the pepper. So many flavors to describe, can't keep up. The wine does pair nicely. The shiraz explodes in my mouth like a berry fruit hand grenade. The spices then coats the mouth finishing off with a blueberry jam thrown into the mix. Letting this wine breath is the key.
Why can't all Friday nights be like this?...
