I just had a tooth extracted and the doctor said I can't have a cigar for at least 1 week. I have always claimed that I'l not an addict, that I don't need to have a cigar, that I choose to do it because I like it. I still believe this is true BUT it is tough. I find myself looking at my humidor more (full of about 200 sticks), looking at Cigar Monster and forums more. It is like I have a need to research more now that I can't smoke. Am I crazy? Am I truly an addict? I ask these questions in gest but I still find it funny. Forbidden Fruit maybe?

Thanks for letting me vent.

I've gone a week without a cigar. Doing it again now while I'm in Texas with my son. Makes then taste that much sweeter. They are worth the wait. But I do not crave one or fiend for one. The research of cigars can be just as enjoyable as smoking them. Substitute one vice for another.

Admitting that you have a problem is the first step to getting help. I only light up a few times a week, but I've noticed when I can't light up, I want to all the more. Hope you get better soon!

HA! what a load of BS!

Personally, I'd smoke away bro.. i bet its to be on the, "safe side" of some astronomically unlikely chance of doing harm to your situation.

i am not a MD by the way :devilhead

I am not sure if this is meant to be funny, but this is terrible advice. There have been several posts like this recently regarding dental procedures and not being able to smoke. Getting a dry socket will cost you several more weeks of not being able to smoke as well as straight up misery from the pain. As someone who got a dry socket after my wisdom teeth were pulled I can definitely say... Don't risk it! The week will be over soon enough.

Ha! You better check out the "Cigar Porn" thread till you can fire up again  I don't smoke everyday, and I still view smoking a cigar as an 'event', not a habit, but I feel for you. I just took a voluntary two week break from my cigars because I nearly over did it on my trip to Las Vegas. It wasn't too bad, I did a lot of cigar research and shopping ( even a little buying from the ISOM ) during the break. Then I fired up a Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1, oh boy was that sweet!...... just be on the safe side and follow your dentists advice, and think about how good that first cigar will taste in a week. Hope you're feeling better soon!

I'm with you. I just had my last wisdom tooth removed a week ago. It was fused to my jaw bone so it wasn't an easy extraction and lots of gum had to be cut. I still haven't smoked and only had one night that I really wanted to smoke. Going for my follow up today and if all is well will smoke tonight.

I just spent a week and a half not smoking, it was major suck value! I had a lot of bone reduction to accompany my tooth extraction, tooth number 32 or lower right third molar was erupting perpendicular into number 31, and stuck pretty good in the "ramus" or curved posterior portion of the mandible. Sorry for the dorky wording and numbers but I work in dentistry so it's common nomenclature. thank god for the refill of vicodin, took a day and a half off of work. It gave me a chance to refill the humi though.... Hope you feel well soon, I would wait a little longer than a week, dry socket is hell, like living in a po-dunk town with no mail service and B&M's that only carry black and milds

Glad to see I'm not alone. Thanks for all the support. Great comment, view smoking a cigar as an event not a habit. This really fits my feeling. Researching is very fun and a great break from my busy work day.

I will be fine without. I normal smoke a few a week unless I'm out of town. Travel Monday, my 1 week period will be over. Lucky me.

A Tat Anarchy is calling my name.

My wife just got over a nasty case of dry socket from sucking to hard on straw. she was miserable going back to the dentist for packings to help it heal. Waiting is absolutely the right choice

Sorry to hear you are unable to enjoy a good cigar right now but waiting to heal is definitely the way to go. I also feel for you, as I too view enjoying a cigar as an event. The only problem is I want that event every day! Get well soon brother.

Well, my week past and I survived. Traveled to Orlando and I enjoy several cigars. Visited Corona and had a great Illusione Ultra and a 601 LaBomba. Thanks Joey...

Thanks for the support fellas.
