So this is weird ...
I have a box of Tatuaje Noellas that I got last summer (box date July '09). When I got them, I noticed that they have very dark wrappers ... VERY dark.
I posted the picture (below) in another thread, and a few people commented that these might be OR Noella Reservas (i.e. '06) because they were so dark. I said that couldn't be the case, since they had a box date of '09. I figured it was just natural wrapper variation (this entire box is that dark)--or on the outside chance, they could have been Reserva '09s and were mislabeled.
Well, I like my Noella's to age a bit, so I haven't gotten around to smoking one until right now (I'm 1/2 way through it). This does NOT taste like a regular Noella to me, and it does NOT have the distinctive wrapper taste of the Noella Reserva '09. I'm at a loss. The earthy/grassy, Cubanesque tobacco flavor is there, but there is also a strong and distinct other flavor that reminds me a lot of ... a Tat Verocu! It does not taste like what I'd expect a Verocu Corona to taste like--it's definitely a brown label--but it has that distinctive sweet-spicy twang that I love about the Verocu. [I admit the possibility that my palate may be off or something, and I did smoke a Boris earlier today, which tasted like they normally do, i.e. awesome, lol]
So what do you guys think is going on here?
