Ok so I've never been able to get into coffee but would really like to. I read a lot of cigar reviews/articles/posts and noticed a lot of guys like to drink coffee paired with thier smokes. Makes perfect sense. Between that and my girlfriend being a huge coffee junky I'd like to get into coffee.

Now my problem is that I don't like coffee.... I really gave it an honest try a about 3-4 years ago and just couldn't get past the coffee taste. I think the dogwatch guys said "If you don't like coffee then you are drinking the wrong coffee". Since I heard that I figured what the hell, I'd try it again.

So long story short, what coffee would you guys suggest for someone that doesn't like coffee? If someone can suggest something I actually enjoy I'd be totally stoked.

Man it's tough cause coffee is a lot like cigars. Good coffee is a matter of taste and can vary on how you prepare it. Are you looking for pre-ground or whole bean? My suggestion is hit up local coffee shops and try the house blends and see which ones you like and you can work up from there. My personal preference is the Peets house blend, think peets is a good place to start.

Have a kid, you'll start drinking whether you like the taste or not.

I'd try either pre ground or beans, I don't have a grinder but can do it in my dads or my gf's. And totally get the cigar reference but you can still suggest good cigars to try. Hell, half the topics on the internet are cigar suggestions. lol

Yes, I've done the local brew shops. I have one around here called Higher Grounds that has what they call a "Zebra" that I've enjoyed. Basically a coffee with heavy white and milk chocolate flavors mixed with the coffee.

Mike I just can not get into cold coffee even more so than hot coffee. Just seems unnatural to me. ;D

Try better coffees. If your grocery store has an area that you can grind the beans there yourself, and especially if they carry a local coffee companies beans get those. They will be fresher (less time from roast to shelf) and see if you like. Avoid any of the mass produced stuff (Folgers, Maxwell House, etc.)

If not, try something like Duncan Donuts breakfast blend, or a mild/medium blend.

If you really don't like the flavor of coffee, I'd suggest getting something flavored, like a mocha or something to start. Or get some flavored creamers to add. Then, once you get a taste for that, slowly wean yourself off the added stuff to get a good appreciation for the coffee itself.

The reason I asked where you live is because I think it's important to find a good purveyor of coffee to introduce you. Many coffees are bitter and have strong elements of charcoal because of excessive roasting. Those are very difficult introductions to coffee.

Take a few hours with your girlfriend and have a drive down to Muncie. There you'll find a shop called Vecino's (102 South Walnut Street Muncie, IN 47305 - (765) 254-1850
Open Mon-Sat 7am-7pm) where they will be able to guide you in your introduction to coffee.

Like cigars, I think it's important to find a great vendor to guide you when you're starting out. The people at Vecino's really know their stuff and I'm confident they are the right people to introduce you to coffee.

As you'll discover, there are many nuances in coffee and many different flavor profiles (much like cigars).
