Out of town for work and met up with friend and good BOTL "Fox" to enjoy a cigar or two tonight. I kept looking at some good cigars in my humi but never smoking them so I figured why not... I fired up a 1985 Romeo y Julieta Churchill Tubo. I have been interested in getting some Churchill Tubos for aging purposes and wanted to see what some real age does for these. This cigar had the old crusty band which literally fell apart because of the age. Construction was flawless and I was excited to light it up. First draw after lighting was near flawless with a blast of vintage Cuban goodness. The flavor was good, but I must admit it was lighter than I was hoping for and expected. I could tell this was aged in a tubo as there was a predominant cedar profile due to being in a cedar wrapped tubo for 28 years. I had to pay attention to the flavors and draw through half of the cigar with cedar being the major flavor. At about the halfway point to which I had given up hope for changing flavors, the cigar did a 180 on me and I got blasted with more flavors and strength. I was shocked at the change as this was like smoking another cigar. Up to this point it was a good cigar, but very mild and I had to finesse this big daddy. But now, wow. This is what I imagined vintage RyJ to be like. I got some chocolate and herbal spice with hints of cinnamon. Smoking through to the end, the flavors changed up a bit with different chocolate flavors and mellowing spice, but the strength was ever present.

What a great cigar to enjoy with a great BOTL. I highly recommend searching out older RyJ cigars, I know I will be. :)

(Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the cigar before I tore the band apart... was too excited to dig in! LOL)
