Open air cigar shops

GIVE ME MY HUMIDOR BACK. So before I go sounding like too big of a baby (though it might be unavoidable), it was a blessing to be in Key West and to even be able to complain about this. With that being said, this past week was a total disappointment in terms of cigars. I have great cigar memories from the last time I was here, but that was before I really got into cigars and would even be able to tell if something was wrong. Well since all of these shops for the most part are open air and they just try to humidify the whole store, I found horrible consistency in the sticks, even the ones with cellophane on them. Most were way to damp, and since I couldnt really dry box them, I just had to deal with it and overall flavors were off and burn was in the hole. I can not wait to get back to my system that is reliable and stop overpaying for smokes that just fell flat. What are your thoughts on the open air shops, and any suggestions for future times?

Sometimes ignorance might be bliss :dunno:. I always pack some of my own anytime I travel these days. Even if I don't get a chance to smoke 'em at least I'm prepared. I can always buy something if I'm visiting a B&M, but won't have to worry about having issues.

Even though I'm a n00b, I still pack my own when I travel. Too big of a pain in the ass dealing with some shotty B&Ms around the country.

Maybe bring a herf a dor with a 65% boveda pack or beads. Bring some sticks to be safe, and you can also dry some of the wetter ones you buy a bit by leaving them in the herf for a couple days.

never go out without a couple in the pocket or a traveler if away for longer

Most B&Ms are hit or miss here in the sunshine state. Gotta pack your own

I'm one of those who never travel without a vacation humidor...I have two of the 15 count Herf A Dors that I love...they keep my cigars at a perfect 65% RH and I am taking both of them on a cruise to Hawaii in March...it's a R/T cruise from LA and I plan on taking at least 30 cigars and will probably buy more while in the islands. Nothing better than cruising and having a cigar every night.

I always bring some with me and only purchase if they are some I can't find anywhere else but never smoke them there. I bring th back home and let them rest for at least a few days.

There's a shop up in Concord, NC that is "open air." I didn't even realize this was a thing until I walked in there and saw sticks just out in the open (it's a converted house). I was kind of put off by the fact that there wasn't a stable humidor to store everything but I bought a few sticks anyway. However, I smoked one I brought from home...

Ya I, went to several places there in Key West and most were open air and I dont think I will ever again gamble on it. From now on will just bring some with me, even if there will be shops near by.

I bring my own when I travel. But I have also had good luck with the shops I have been to and bought sticks there and smoked them there also with no issues.

Best one I have been to is the Mile Marker #82 Cigar Shop on the Islamorada Key. Great Smokes and great folks. Bought 2 bundles to bring back home last year.

Yeah, Florida was the first time I've seen open air.
