Hey everyone! I know I've been gone for a while (grad school prep has been a real pain in my ass) but tomorrow is my b-day and I'm finally going to get to smoke the Bolivar RC that was gifted to me by a kind brother about 6 months ago.

I've not yet had the pleasure of enjoying this smoke before but I know I'm in for an extra treat since this bad boy has been aging since 2004! So my fellow brothers what would you suggest to pair with this smoke in order to ensure the best possible experience? This is what I have at my disposal:

- Pappy Van Winkle 20
- Johnny Walker Gold
- Vintage Bourbon 17
- Thomas H. Handy Rye
- Redbreast 12
- Great Divide Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti imperial stout
- Unibroue Trois Pistoles

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not framiliar with those drinks. But my favorite cigar and drink combo is a Bolivar with a rum (spiced or regular) and coke. I also like congac with Bolivars.

Happy Birthday and let us know how it goes.

If you really want to experience the true flavors of the cigars - pair it with water or iced tea.

Then have a nice snifter of Pappy 20 to finish off the evening.

Redbreast is good! I personally would go with something lite in flavor like a Patron silver for a CC...or Hacienda...or a nice vodka (Goose is my fav).

I learned something last night at the La Aurora blending event in regards to pairing drinks with cigars:

The best drink to pair with the cigar, is the one you like the best!

I also found that club soda does a GREAT job of cleansing your palate!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I ended up going with the Redbreast (because it's lighter) as well as a U.K. porter called Entire Butt. The cigar was WORLD ROCKING. Be on the lookout for a review coming soon!
