Jonathan Papelbon signed the richest contract for a closer.

Good news for the Phillies.

He blew a couple games against the Angels a few years ago.
But if managed properly, this Heart Attack closer can get it done.

Phillies fans, your gonna love the way this kid pitches.

"You think you can hit my fast ball?
Here you go try it.
Oh you missed!
Heres another one."

Red Sox are going to be on a downward slide.

He wanted wayyy too much money for the Sox to keep him. Didn't make sense to pay that much. We picked up an extra draft pick.

I'd like to see them try and go after Heath Bell.

Im not buying the money argument.

Sox overpay on just about everyone! (as do the Yankees and a couple others)....

But 2 out of his 6 years he was the best closer in the game. Period.
2 out of his 6 years he was easily in top 2 or 3.

So 4 out of his 6 years there was virtually no one better.

Agreed he's one of the best for sure. Last year he was weak and I *personally* don' think he was worth the $50MM.

Sox can turn that money into a new, good closer and a better relief core. Our pitching blows, no one can deny that. Time to step up and find some better relief pitching and a replacement closer.

Like I said, Heath Bell would be a good fit I think. I don't think that Daniel Bard is ready to be a full time closer, last year was another good indication, in the end months he pitched like utter crap and blew a bunch of games.
