Partagas 8-9-8 varnished or Bolivar Coronas Extra?

I've had both recent years (09s) and right now IMO the 898Vs blow the CEs away. All though the CEs are still good.

late 09 and on production of 898's has been very good for me. Fresh ones at the festival were fantastic but really cant go wrong with either

Haven't had either, but I would probably buy a box of 898s before the CEs, only because I like the vitola more. I also tend to like Partagas more in my experience with the two brands.

I will agree with many others and say that both are great smokes. Budget permitting, get a box of each! Otherwise, my vote goes to the 898v which is one of my favorites.

Never overly impressed with the 898s. A poor substitute for my beloved Party Lonsdales. The BCE, however, is a damn good cigar. Currently have 02s, 06s & 07s. All with full strength & nice earthy flavor.

CE's are almost always good! 898 is either very dull or fantastic, you never know till you smoke em.

Exactly. Everyone's taste is different. Can't say that one cigar is "better" than another. It's just that you or I like it better. I find it amusing when folks decide what to buy based on what someone else likes. Flavor profiles can help, though. For example, I find the BCEs earthy & the 898s peppery. I happen to like earthy cigars. Boli Coronas taste like dirt. I love them. Others may not.

Had both. Not a big Boli guy, but I love the CE. That said the Partagas 898 is the better of the two.

Tough, tough choice. If you are a Partaga guy get the 898V's. If your a Bolivar guy get the Coronas Extras.


I like them both.

While some have recommended one or the other........I say buy a box of each.Lay them down and try one every 6 months or so.After a couple years if one just isn't tripping your trigger......you have some excellent trade fodder.

I say this because I personally love both cigars.The CE for it's earthy expresso notes,excellent with your morning coffee, and the 898 for it's peppery leather notes,perfect after a nice steak dinner.As you see they are 2 entirely different cigars.Hard to compare apples and elephants in a fair way.

While your at it I highly recommend a cab of Boli PC's and a cab of Party Shorts.I think once you've fallen in love with the Boli and Party profiles you'll understand why it's so important to keep the cabs listed above in the humi at all times.Besides that I just love spending other peoples $$$$$.
