Partagas Corona
Origin: Cuba
Size: Corona
Length: 5.675
Gauge: 42
Box code: RSE OCT 02
As is the case with most Habanos, the construction on these was impeccable. The wrapper was a much darker brown than most of the sticks I see. They were a bit veiny, but of good quality and the veins small. The pre-light aroma was not very strong, which surprised me a bit. The pre-light draw on this one was perfect and would please almost any enthusiast.
The Corona lit evenly and put out surprising quantities of smoke for such a small ring size. The burn had to be corrected several times, but it did not impact the enjoyment of the stick, even though the cone kept burning off to one side. This cigar was simply stunning and a surpise (more on that below). The "twang" on this one was very pronounced and the aromas, superb. I kept waving the cigar underneath my nose just to smell the incredible smoke. I would not call this a complex cigar, but it is rather stout in terms of strength. It seemed a bit one dimensional, but the taste was fabulous all the way through the stick. I cannot say enough about the flavor of this cigar. I would say that this Corona is just starting to hit its stride and smoking wonderfully at this point.
I received some of these a couple of months ago thinking that the age might make them a good, current smoke. I was surprised in that the first two were a bit too stiff on the draw, which really detracted from the experience. The third seemed a bit "off", although I had just recovered from a severe cold and had not smoked much for a couple of weeks. I decided to let the remainder rest for a month and then tried them again. The last two I have smoked were simply marvelous.
These are highly recommended, although you may get a few that are a bit tight and suffer some irregular burn. Because of that, I have to downgrade construction. While not as complex as other Partagas sticks, these are one fine smoke and if you have the patience, you will be rewarded.
