Wouldn't you like to know?
I don't know why but I have been noticing quite a few patches on the wrappers lately. I am not sure if I just never noticed them before but now am. I guess what hass been suprising me most is the cigars the patches have been on. Today I had a Pork tenderloin with a small patch covering where a stem had poked through, yesterday it was a JDN Cabinetta that had a patch at the foot covering a small crack, and abit ago it was a large one the size of a nickel on the foot of a Opus Double Robusto. Is there a shortage of wrapper tobacco? Or has this been common I just haven't been paying attention.

I recently noticed this on a cigar I smoked, but don't recall seeing this before either.

Very interesting

It would be great to hear some of our Brothers in the industry (Pete, et al) chime in on this...

Is it commonplace?
Is it "hiding" blemishes?
Is it hiding flaws that would normally affect draw if NOT covered?

I have noticed only a couple with patch work.

It would be intersting as Clint said to see what the powers to be have to say about it.

My take, is that it was noticed and covered up for what ever reason. So I would myself lean towards patching it and selling it as a second or not selling it at all.

I found a nice sized patch on a Padron 45th a couple months ago. I can understand it on a lower priced stick but not on a super premium (or what I consider super premium at least). Since then I noticed maybe 1 or 2 others.

Same thing here Justin, we had them on 44's and 45's and not little ones either!

It's pretty normal....You just never know when you will need to use one...Hard to waste a wrapper when only a small blemish is on it and almost ridiculously impossible to sort perfect wrapper for the amount of cigars most factories make per day.....
I think if you look, you will notice it more and more on cigars you would never expect it from......

Like Pete said . If you start to look you will notice it on HIGH end cigars. No names need to be mentioned . But it happens. It still smokes and tastes the same .

sign of the times, this economy is making everyone get kind of tight. Then again why waste a good cigar for a few minor imperfections, Won't stop me from smoking. "hmmmm that looks odd oh well puff puff and away" LoL

I have also noticed this. One of the Serie 1926 #2's I had a way's back had a patch on it. And I remember thinking with the price they are asking for these it would feel better if those in in QC would pull the blemished sticks to the side. I guess that's why I've never heard of a Padron second. Can't say that's stopped me from purchasing them, but still spending that kind of money make's one pause and say to one's self..."Really?!?"

I have noticed more and more patches on sticks that you would think would have perfect wrappers. I was surprised and wondered if this was a repair made after it left the factory. I guess it is done in the factory due to the high demand for the quantity. Too bad, it is our own fault for accepting this kind of quality for the price we are paying for them. If I would have bought these from a local B & M, I would return it for one that has a perfect wrapper. If everyone did this, then word might travel back up the line to the factory owners that the quality has to improve or we won't buy them.
I know it does not change the way it taste or smokes but it is just the principle of the thing.

I've noticed them from time to time. If there good they'll but the patch on the inside of the wrapper then roll it. Other times you just see them slap on a little piece on the out side.
