I know they have a search option but good luck navigating on any government web-site. There are some programs out there that will do a patent search but the problem is that you have to also consider the patent pending items. From my understanding the patent process is slow and tedious and after your done, some a**hole will reverse engineer whatever you did, build it in China for pennies on the dollar, and then sue you for infringement. Not that I'm bitter or jaded.

You can always go to a Patent Agent or a Patent Attorney. They both charge for this service but it is guaranteed to be complete. I do not recommend an online patent service....too many fraudulent sites on this subject. What I would recommend is that you contact a Patent attorney for a consultation. There is typically no charge for this and they are full of very good advice. I spoke with one this past year about a golf idea I had. Haven't moved on it yet since I feel I need to do some real time testing and measuring.
Also, the search options on net are very difficult since you need to be precise in your description plus you need to know if any part of your design infringes on any part of a patented design. Very complicated. Again, I reiterate, I do not recommend you use an online search site for $200.00 or so.
