Had a bowl of this today (thanks to javajunkie) and really enjoyed it. It was the second bowl I've ever smoked however so my review wouldn't be much more than "I liked it" lol. Once I get better at packing and smoking a pipe I'll try to chime in with more useful info ;). Gotta say though I may quickly become a flake guy.

My shipment came in on Friday and I tried the first bowl today.

First impression: This was a new flavor experience for me. I think this may be my first time really tasting Perique and realizing what it was that I was tasting. There's a noticeable peppery element to this, not too spicy, but definitely something there other than the Virginia!

i am NOT letting another month pass, but haven't the time for a full review or pix. short short:

sweetness and "barn" in the jar, fairly ready to go moisture-wise, very pretty flakes. common thread is a bright acidy note combined with some caramalized sweetness, all from the virginias, supported with a little dried fruit (prune) and pepper (black and grey, maybe a very little mild capsaicin) undercurrent from the perique. fold and stuff, seemed to be very liniar, but well defined, and a problem to burn to the heel, but only slightly. rubbed out, was a little more muddled flavors, and ashy, but easier to burn, all the way down on one light with nothing left. cube cut, more striations of flavor, not as much as the fold-n-stuff, but more than the rubbed, and burned middling between the two. all three preps were in a small zulu, and i want to run through a cob to confirm. all four smokes so far were from a 15 month jarred sample.

do a small bowl, and take your time. this is a simple blend, but not stupid, and can hold quite a lot of enjoyment. it is NOT the best VaPer i have found, but it delivers easily and happily every time, and you don't have to chase it. also it doesn't hurt that it is stupid cheap, like $30 a pound is not hard to do. it IS a virginia, so it will bite you, but only if you push; pacing will circumvent this, and drying might as well. i personally am pounds deep on this stuff, and am always glad to come back around to it.

Sean, did you split you stash out in to the 8 fl.oz. canning jars? I bought the 1.5lb box on sale for $36. Figured at that price, why not? Just not sure how I want to attack cellaring though.
Was tempted to throw it all in one larger glass bail jar...

use the smallest jar you can, going for longterm. you open less actual tobacco each time you crack a jar, and the rest stays aging. you should be able to lay an 8oz jar on it's side, stack flakes in, and close it comfortably.

i have a few 16oz full of the stuff, but it was for convenience. i kinda regret that, in retrospect, but it won't harm anything, and i'm not going to hate on having to burn this in a steady rotation.

Day 2, in my Savinelli 320 Marron Glace
I left a flake out to dry overnight, and it was near crumbly this morning, but not so much that I couldn't still fold and stuff. The one flake only filled the cavernous bowl of the 320 about half way. I changed too many variables to really compare anything (thicker briar, larger diameter bowl, less tobacco, dried overnight) but this smoked a LOT easier for me. Cooler. No bite no matter how hard/fast I puffed. Yesterday felt very "plugged" and today was much more like smoking a loose tobacco. I got much more sweetness yesterday, where today is predominantly pepper/spice. So much pepper that it gave a definite nose tickle on the snork. Curious to see what tomorrow holds!

...nose tickle on the snork.
This piqued my curiosity. What exactly is a snork?
Sorry.
Retrohale!
:)
i am down with most pipe culture, but i absolutely CANNOT get behind the word "snork". it just takes me back to that horrid smurfs rip-off/clone. retrohale is much more dignified.
Retrohale may be more dignified, but snork is so much more awesome!!!

Edit: could not let this post go with such a gross disregard for the English language.

I tried to let it go, I honestly did, but the draw was too much, I had to change it.

I typed it in, knowing all well and good that it wouldn't last that long. But, I tried.

Just thoroughly enjoyed my 2nd bowl of this. Nice bright tobacco flavors with some natural sweetness followed by the spicy perique that lingers with some subtle creaminess throughout. Like all the PS blends I have tried so far, there is an incredible value to the consumer and have found another flake I really enjoy and will keep on hands at all times. Anxious to see how this one ages as well.
