Mold. I have a box of late 07 RASS that had a couple on the bottom row with mold as well. Didn't notice until a month or so after receipt of the sealed box. I hope this isn't a trend as I have been really impressed with these in newer production.

Where do you keep your RH?

Unless it is a full coat, that kind of mold can be brushed off and the cigar still smoked.

Good news is you have just found the next few cigar you are going to smoke.

If you see mold up inside the foot, you have a major issue, if it's just like that brush it off and you should be fine. What temp/hum are you keeping them at?

I was gifted this weekend..:frownno:
Still a nice gift, I've found that light mold on many cigars in stores and when I point it out to them they take them politely and put them back behind the counter. If I walk back in ten minutes after I leave they are right back in the box with the mold dusted off. I think we have all probably smoked quite a few cigars that had the mold dusted off and never knew it or tasted a difference.

I got a Anejo once with some light mold on the outside and a little on the foot as well. I dusted it off, clipped 1/4 inch off the foot and didn't see any more mold so light it up. Smoked just fine.

If it was just a couple of sticks, I wouldn't worry about it. If it was most of the cigars in the box I would clean the box and check the hygro to ensure the RH. Better safe than sorry.

I smoke the ones that look like they have mold and then keep an eye on them to see if they come back. Happened earlier this year when I had a bit too much moisture. Hit just the ends of a stick or two so I just cut it off and smoked those as soon as I could.

Oh and the ones I had mold on were the same ones!! RASS sticks. Something about them made them pick up more moisture than all my other sticks. Weird!

That is definately mold. Wipe em off and lower your humidity. Also what do you use as your humidification device? I use an oasis and find that occasionally I will have these problems with the sticks closest to the Oasis.

Good point...light mold issues rarely change the taste.
