Plume or mold?

A coworker of mine just gave me a Montechristo Petit Tubo last night at our company Christmas party. He's smoked a few of them, and they all look like the below picture. I have no idea how old this cigar is, or whether or not the humitube has been opened before. So does this look like plume or mold? Discuss. :)

Thanks!
Jose

If it's fuzzy and it looks like it needs a shave - it's mold. Wipe it off and smoke it.

As for how old it is, it's not sporting the 'new' embossed band, but it is wearing the last updated version of the Monte band. I forgot when the change was made, but I know it was in the last couple of years...then changed again I think last year to an embossed band.

That one looks a little moldy to me. Like was said, wipe it off and smoke it.

Very mild case of mold - just wipe it off and you'll be fine. I suggest you keep it out of the tube if you don't plan on smoking it for a while.

As they said, it's mold.
I've found that tubos are much more likely to be moldy than non-tubed cigars. If they get put into tubes when they're wet, they'll stay like that and mold away, where as if they're not in tubes the extra humidity will be released. I always check every one of my tubos when I get them for mold because it's a common problem (at least for me).

Well that sucks, I was hoping it'd be plume. I've kept it out of the tube and wiped everything off it. I'll let it sit in the humi for a week or so before smoking.

On a positive note, one of my employees, (DrFalken, you guys just met him in Introductions), gave me a nice Christmas gift today, a Cohiba Siglo VI, a Siglo IV, Romeo Y Julieta Churchill, and Partagas Serie D No 1 EL 2004. Merry Christmas to me!

May all of you and yours have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwazy Kwanzaa, or Happy Festivus! :smokingbo

MMM that ius a good gift. If that is mold, Ii would smoke it soon, so the chance of it spreading is removed. Even if you wipped the mold off, there is no way you got every spore on that smoke removed. My .02

Wrong. I've seen mold that looks dusty. Plume looks like crystals. It looks like a small, white, crystalline solid. You cannot see through the plume. The most important thing to know is that mold has depth to it. Plume arises in the indentions and pores of the cigar. You look at it from the side and you cannot see any dimension to it.

But you are right about this being mold.
