I bought a 3 pack of the Camacho 1962 pre-Emabrgo's on Cigarbid for like $24 and then I saw these in JR's new catalog for $40/box. has anyone heard of them or better yet tried them?

HAVANA BLEND CIGARS
Handmade USA
Wrapper: Binder: Filler: CUBAN 1959
Medium-Full Bodied

Can there still be Havana Tobacco from the crop of 1959? Personally, I think there’s a better chance of seeing me playing center field for the Yankees next season... but what would I know? .... I’ve only been doing this my entire freakin’ life. Anyway... we were offered a 6.00 inch by 50 ring Toro sized cigar that was actually made in San Antonio, Texas by the nation’s oldest cigar factory, and they (not me) claim these cigars are made with Vintage 1959 Havana Tobacco that was bought from the Wally Frank Company years and years ago. That claim struck a bell somewhere in my head and that’s why I decided to buy these up. The “bell” was the fact that I remembered Wally Frank, an old time New York retailer, owned a cigar factory in Kingston, N.Y. where he made these Havana filler cigars in the 1970’s... so maybe these guys are on the up and up. In any event, it’s worth a try just to see what the heck this stuff is. And, for $39.95 for a box of 25 cigars, whatta ya got to lose?

One of the guys here, kaelaria, publishes a site called CigarObsession.com. Here's his review of the cigar.
Yeah that was the Camacho Pre-Embargo, but I'm talking about the
"Havana Blend" from JR's for $40/box. I've never heard of them??? They are supposedly made with "Vintage 1959 pre-embargo Cuban tobacco"

It doesn't take much tobacco to make the claim. Could be a single leaf or a sliver of the leaf to claim that it's "made with" vintage pre-embargo tobacco.

Camacho PE cigars are delicious. Definitely worth 8-10$ a stick. They are made with an unknown portion of PE tobacco and I'm not about to guess how much. They are similar to the yearly Liberty blends. Very good cigar...

I was originally introduced to Havana Blend cigars 12 years ago. I was on business in San Antonio and I visited a shop called Finck Cigar Company and Factory , they've been around since the 1880's.

The cigars are made in their factory in San Antonio, Bill Finck, Jr owns the business now, and this is what he had to say about the cigars back in April 2009....

"Havana Blend cigars are made with a great blend of fillers including a small percentage of true Cuban tobacco. We had in excess of 10,000 pounds when we started making the brand and have used about 90% of the tobacco. Hopefully the embargo will be lifted before we run out, otherwise we'll have to take the brand off the market."

I still think it's a pretty good, decently priced cigar, you will either like it or you won't....that's my opinion on them.

Finck's used to have a cheroot made out of the scraps from the HB's and were damn good for the chump change they charged. I bought a couple of the cans a few years ago and left them for the Padron Fuma as a cheap smoke.

So with that being said, $40 for a box of 25 is worth a try. I'll let you know.

I talked to a Cigar dealer in Canada about Pre-Embargo tabacco and what he said was that the "SEEDS" from Cuban tobacco has been used for years outside of Cuba (like Nicaraqua). So as long as it's Cuban seed they use, they can call it Pre-Embargo. The soil it grows in doesn't matter.
Personally I have had a couple Cuban cigars that a couple brothers sent me and have gotten some from Canada recently. I just don't get it. To me I don't think they taste any better than what we can get here. I think it's all about having the "Forbidden Fruit" that makes it appealing. If you read the discriptions on about 75% of cigar producs comming out of Central America ther all using a Cuban Seed.

Any B&M that carries the Padron line should have them or be able to get them, but I don't believe they make them anymore.

Padrón Fumas Cigars

Size: Lonsdale
Ring Gauge: 44
Length: 6 1/2"

The Padrón Fumas is a rustic lonsdale with a frayed pigtail and an unfinished wrapper that covers the foot. This easy-going cigar has a fine draw and an abundance of earthiness on the palate and the finish.

Body: Medium

They still make the Fumas but it's only for sale in Florida from what I hear. They make them for the older guys and want to keep them for the older guys so they don't distribute them like they used to.
