Just watched this documentary on 3D printed guns. Cody Wilson, based in Austin TX, has opened source CAD drawings for printing off lower recievers for the AR-15 platform.

I don't know how they were able to get this precise to make a functional firearm, but I can tell you from experience, 3d printing sucks at the consumer level.

I was disillusioned based on what I had seen on tv and youtube about the possibilities of 3d printing.

I've been using a $2,000 Replicator 2 which is one of the more mainstream units and it's bad - the final prints are often warped, misaligned, and just overall look crappy.

Yeah, they really don't work well. At all. Not even the magazines.

Helped another student with his documentary on printed gun parts this past weekend.
It was embarrassing how terribly the stuff worked. This is most definitely not the future of firearms or firearms parts.
