I've had all kinds of crazy construction issues with viaje. Enough that I think I'm done buying them. Not really my preferred flavor profiles anyway...
Could just be the wrapper. Some wrappers are destined to split, due to their inherent characteristics, makes them more fragile. Could be a shock based on ambient humidity versus the humidity in your humi, but again that would come back to the fragility of the wrapper used, because obviously under similar conditions, other cigars do just fine.
Viaje has some construction issues they're known for. They openly focus on flavor over construction and have said something along the lines of you always have a lighter to fix burn issues. I love their sticks personally.
