I have yet to have a Diesel, Obsidian, CAO, etc. I typically stick with what I like, but was curious as a lot of these can be had for around $3/stick in these samplers from big volume retailers.

Been smoking a lot of Padron 64, Liga #9 and Jaime Garcia Reserva lately.

Am I missing out on anything? I like medium-full, maduro, thick chewy smokes.

The diesel UHC was a ok stick. The first one I had I couldn't believe they were $3. I bought a box before smoking the rest of the fiver. Out of the box I smoked 10 and bombed the rest as they were the most inconsistent stick. about 20% were great and 80% ehhh so for a yard gar cant go wrong.

Diesel is a very heavy, somewhat spicy broadleaf maduro. Chewy is a good way to describe it. With a few months of age they are very good. Similar smokes to my palate are the Padron 85 and Jaime special.

The UHC is something I have been meaning to try forever. I look forward to seeing other comments as well. I have heard pretty much nothing but praise though.

The Obsidian is a great smoke. And I love all the Diesel, the UHC, the Shorty and my personal favorite the Unlimited. You cant go wrong for the price, these you asked about and MOW are my go to. Of the CAO, my favorite is the Brazilia, though they have a couple decent sticks, none to write home about though IMO. I have not had the fortune of having the ones you say you have been smoking alot of a lately, but by the sound of it, unless you hit a rough financial spot, prob would be happy sticking with those other sticks.

I will try most anything, but I can't bring myself to try the Diesel. The name is such a turn off to me, I can't get past it. I drive a tanker truck for a living, and the thought of smoking something called "diesel" turns my stomach. I smell and smell like the stuff all day, no thank you.

I enjoy the CAO Brazil, but it's inconsistent as well. Sometimes you will get a great smoke, others are hot air. They are definitely worth a try, if you get them on sale. Never tried the Obsidian though.

I like the UHC, but as JJ says some I've had were really good and others only ok. For the price though, you could certainly do worse. I used to smoke the CAO Gold Maduro quite a bit cause they were one of the cheaper cigars at my local shop and I enjoyed them. Haven't had one in a while though. I also enjoy the Brazilia and the America. They discontinued the size of Brazilia I really liked though so haven't smoked to many of them since. Still enjoy them, but it seemed like that was the only size I didn't have burn issues with. Best thing to do is get some and see what you think you them .

The flavor profile you seem to be after is probably my favorite as well! You should definitely try the Diesel. For the price, it's hard to go wrong. If they're too strong when you get them, let them age--the mellow out a bit and become more flavorful (or rather, the flavors blend together better).

Beyond that, you're definitely missing out on some other great sticks in that general PAM/LP#9 profile!!!! BTW, I assume you've tried the other Liga Privadas, including the Undercrown, if not, that's you're next stop!

What else you're missing:

La Riqueza (seriously, get on this asap! They get better and sweeter with age)
El Triunfador Lancero Especial (the Broadleaf lancero ... awesome stick, gets much better even with some age)
Cabaiguan Maduro (the non-lancero sizes of the above, the 46 is my fave)
Tatuaje 7th Reserva (good cigars, must try)
La Casita Criolla (incredibly unique cigars, also a must try. The corona size is quite a bit spicier, but still just over medium)
La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor (a BOTL bombed me a few of these recently, and they're REALLY good smokes!)
Murcielago (just a great spicy-sweet cigar)
DPJ Series JJ Maduro (becoming hard to find, great Broadleaf Maduro cigars)
My Father Le Bijou 1922 Petite Robusto and Corona Gorda (these two sizes of this blend are great, but the cg size was an LE and very strong)
Illusione Maduro (the ~hl is my favorite vitola, but all the ones Iv'e had are good)
Oliva V Maduro (these are quite a bit stronger, but awesome)
Oliva O Maduro (like the V, but less strength. The perfecto vitola is awesome)
La Herencia Cubana Oscuro Fuerte (another cheapie from CI blended by AJ, also noticeably stronger but with a lot of sweetness)
Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro (another cheapie, surprisingly good, but medium or even less in body/strength)
EPC Maduro (a good standard yummy Nica maduro)
EPC Dark Rituals (just has my first one on Tuesday ... great cigar)
EPC Elencos (I've only had one of these, but I'm planning to smoke a LOT more!)
CAO MX2 (spicy and sweet without a lot of strength)
CAO La Traviata Maduro (more complex than the price would suggest, very nice)

Venturing outside of Nicaraguans and Blends:
AF Anejo (the first infused cigar ever, delicious, sweet, very unique, very awesome)
AF WOAM (classic, better than the other Hemmingway Maduros imvho)
LFD Cabinet Maduro (more like medium, but delicious!)
LFD Ligero Oscuro (not as strong as it sounds, barely full-bodied really. Better than the natural wrappers for me)
LFD Double Ligero Maduro/Oscuro (strong, yes, but really tasty, especially if you like chocolate-covered fruit!)

(editied for personal bias!)

...and also:
ortega serie d
romacraft intemperence xxiii
anejo (just to reiterate)
fausto, esp. the t114 and avion '11 (and probably moreso the avion '12, cannot wait!)
from descriptions, the la duena when it comes out. hell, try the flor de las antilles, not a maddie, but i just like the textures.

FWIW o)
